hello guys and girls from the fiat forum, i hope i'm posting this in the right place, and if i'm not please excuse me as this is my first post.

OK. The story...

I bought my car, a 51 plate Fiat Punto, 1.2 8V (i think its the base model) last december from a auction. As i was trying to get out the auction car park, i noticed that the reverse gear doesnt work, the gear goes into place, but when i try to go, it makes a bang! and feels like it drops out of gear. all the other gears worked fine. After taking it home, my local garage told me i needed a new gearbox, so a new (well refurbished) gearbox i got. The guy gave me 6 months warranty on it too. After a new exhaust and a new (refurbed) ECU later, the other day while i was driving, in third gear, weird nosies started coming out, it felt like as i pressed the gas pedal the gear was slipping, i am still able to go, but not normal, with this scraping noise, this happened in other gears too while i continued my journey. After stopping in a Tesco car park, i called the AA and while i was waiting for it i thought i'd turn the car round so it'll be easier to attach the towing gear on. When i put it in reverse, it went for like a foot, then bang! it felt like i drove straight into a wall (it didnt stall however) i was like WTF! i got out to check, maybe i went into a pole, but nothing was there. This was similar to my first gearbox problem. After the AA guy came, he layed under and had a browse, did nothing, and was confused. He sat in and we went round the car park, it wasn't slipping out of gear but there was a noise, like a belt had snapped and it was hitting on something click click click click as the car moved, AA guy said it sounded like it was coming from the wheel  Anyway, he couldnt be arsed to put the towing equipment on, so he said you drive home and i'll follow u just in case something happens. I got home safely but i felt my car was in pain.

Does anyone know what this might be? Can anyone suggest where i may look, or check to find the problem, i have never touched a car before so have no knowledge of this subject but am willing to learn, so please someone guide me to the right direction.

could you not get money back, even auctions have a time period...sometimes only 24hrs though.

its almost been a year since i bought the car, i doubt they will give me my money back.

thanks thou.
