Have read of similar problems on the forum but not sure if they are the same as mine. I own an N reg Fiat punto 55s and was wondering if anyone knew what is the cause of my problem. When manouvering the car at slow speeds, turning hard to the left/right there is what I can only describe as a loud banging/clicking type noise which seems to be coming from the steering system. It makes this noise a number of times whilst carrying out a manouvre, sometimes as many as 10 loud "clicks" are heard. It is apparantly louder outside the car than in. A friend said it may well be a problem with the suspension not the steering but its not totally clear where the noise is coming from. Any ideas on what it could be would be muchly appreciated. Thanks

hmmm i had a something that sounds simalr on my mk2 2001 punto. i never heard a npise when moving at speed but when manouvering in and out of spaces i would here a click/knock noise as i turned the wheel. in my case it was the steering shaft assembly that needed replacing

2001 Punto sporting in sprint blue with matching Mr Bump air freshner all together now mmmmmmm

I'm pretty sure that my problem is the same as yours fishdude, it is more of a knock/click noise than a bang/click noise, your description totally matches my problem. Roughly how much should the repair cost? Thanks

not really up on garage costs im afraid as i do most of the stuff myself.phone around and get some quotes although its most likely not going to be cheap im afraid, but if its just the outer CV then you can just have the joint replaced rather than the full driveshaft

Most likely the CV joints, best bet is to buy a new or recon joint/driveshaft and fit yourself, not that hard a job but garages sting you for it. Haynes manual tells you how :)
