I managed to blow my engine up tonight :D
Best guess is I've snapped a valve....but until the car is back on the driveway I can't really be certain.
So far is has made a bloody loud bang, dropped from about 60 to 20mph and ticks and rattles on acceleration...also has trouble starting and sounds like it is missing on one cylinder.
Oil is fine and no mayo, water is fine...temperature hasn't rocketed...no real indication of a blown HG at the moment....so any other ideas would be appreciated!!!
Gonna get the car recovered and bought home tomorrow as early as possible and get the head off to take a look.
Doesn't sound like snapped con-rod or crankshaft...it's definitely a top end problem...any ideas of other causes?

Nope...i thought that but no smoke at all.
Could be a hole in a piston as it stinks of oil.....but seems a bit unlikely.

1/2 inch of gasket missing between cylinders 3 and 4...also some damage to the head...and to top all that the block is worn where the blow was.
The head is going to a specialist tomorrow to get a confirmation of how bad it is...but seeing as the head has already been skimmed twice...last time losing 9 thou I reckon it'll be beyond use by now.

Looks like she is finally dead :( ...so watch out for a some bargains in the classifieds soon :bang:

Fit a replacement from a Scrappies?

No certainty that a replacement from the scrappies won't do the same another month down the line.
Anyways I don't fancy having to do an entire engine swap...it'd be far most cost effective to just scrap it and sell the parts. Already getting people offering cash for the CF bonnet

Shame... looks a nice example but I get your drift.

Had the ehad looked at by a specialist today...he thinks that it could be repaired...but the time and cost involved don't really balance up against the cost of the car.
The head just needs a ever so slight skin...which is no biggie...the block needs skimming to get rid of the damage from the blow.
He also found that the inlet manifold gasket was the wrong shape so the injecotrs had bene firing against it and not properly into the ports.

Going out to look at a 1.2 active sport this afternoon...so might be sticking with a punto :p
