Hi Guys

I've just bought myself a 6 month old 1.4 Punto Sporting and thought I'd join the forum...

Thing is, my last car was a 2.0 Peugeot 306 XSi and I'm beginning to worry the little 1.4 isn't going to be a patch on it performance wise!!!!!!

Someone distill my fears and tell my my Punto is actually a fairly rapid motor!

Cheers
Alex.

hey i got a 1.2 97 and it shifts but probably not as much as 2.0 XSi.
I'd say the 1.4 will probably be about as good though :)

1997, 1.2 16v sporting and I'm Proud!!!

hi there to be honest i dont think you will find that much difference yes your old car had biger engine but was bigger car i just looked on parkers website and it sais yoru xsi was 0-60 in 10 seconds i would expect the punto 1.4 to match that, i think the 1.2 that i have got does it in about 11?

also i assume the 1.4 sporting has the 6 speed box wich helps with quick get aways a bit :)

2001 Punto sporting in sprint blue with matching Mr Bump air freshner all together now mmmmmmm

I reckon you'll find at real speeds (<100) it'll be pretty much as quick, but you'll have to work it a little harder - I've driven an 306 XSi and it's a nice torquey drive - you might find the Fiat (marginally) less so.

But on the positive side, I've got a 1998 Punto 60s and went to a Stag Night in York from Perth a couple of weeks ago - the wee car never dropped below 80, did a 'little bit' more at times and managed to stay with some boy in his new Bentley Continental for about 15 miles - till the traffic cleared and he disappeared over the horizon!

In real terms, I think you'll find your 95hp version will go just fine.

Here come da judge...

You'll be much happier with the MPG on the Punto anyhow ;)

The last of the line XSi's were 8.5 to 60 but if the new Sporting's are 9.4 it shouldn't feel too different!

I'm feeling happier by the minute!

I'll stick some pics up on Thursday when I get it...

Does this forum have any "club" stickers?

Should try driving an Alfa 146 2.0ti, or 145 Cloverleaf for that matter...

WHHOSH! I want a faster car now :p

try a mazda rx-8 drove my dads. 1.3L twin rotary 245bhp all the way from 2500rpm-8600rpm with a redline at 9400rpm it accelerates like a rocket with loads of torque across the whole rev band short shift stick 0-60 about 6.8secs at 9100rpm in gear 2 LOL! and tops out at about 160 odd miles an hour too great if you drive alot in germany :)

Well I've now picked up the Sporting...

I've very very impressed! It's certainly not a patch speed wise on the Pug but it's a much beeter drive by far!

Well done Fiat!
