Window Tinting (Film)

Okay, i'm wanting to get the windows on my Punto tinted. (3 Door Mk2). I only really want the 3 back windows done for now, either side and boot window, i want them a dark black tint and can get them done professionally for 30 quid.

But the reason for this thread is, i was wondering if anyone has tinted windows themself with a window tinting kit, or seen some done personally. I was just wondering as it'd be something for me to do - and it would work out cheaper. My main concern was the quality though, i was thinking that maybe done myself it wouldn't look as good. Although i could remove the back windows from the car before tinting them to make it easier, not sure about the boot window though.

Any advice would be great.

Cheers!

Re: Window Tinting (Film)

Probably will. I was just thinking as it'd keep me busy for a few hours, and let me do something to my car myself, you know how it is. :P

Depends if i thought i could do a good enough job. Might look at the rear side windows and see if they can be removed easily. If they can i might have a bash doing them but will get the boot window done professionally for sure. Will just see how it all looks - if its going to be a **** on, i'm not going to bother.

Re: Window Tinting (Film)

if i was you, id pay to have the windows tinted by someone professional, tinting windows is a mind boggling thing which i have learnt in the past. ive been tinting windows for bout 8 months now and the first 4 months of that was practising. you gotta have the paitenance and the time to tint, ive wasted alot of tint and money to get where i am today. but now tinting a car for me takes about a hour a few months ago. a good couple of hours, its all about techniques and the tools you use. i charge 100 to tint all of the car except from the main front window. but its not a proper buisness its just hobles for the mates i hang around with. in my opinion pay for someone to do it. cos if u try it yourself ull keep wasting roll apon roll of tint untill uve wasted more money that what it would of cost to have it done professional. but you feel better in urself knowing that someone professional has done it.

Re: Window Tinting (Film)

ive done it loads of times aswell, but i would say go for it,., i first did it when i was 16 and with a little patience it came out looking well, that was 6 years ago and today i could do it in my sleep. the mk2 punto in particular is a handy car to tint because the windows are pretty flat, even the rear window can be tinted handy enough, a lot of other cars can really fight you to get to the tint to fit the rear window.,

your gonna need a heatgun/hairdryer if you do it yourself, dont bother trying it without heat, a lot of people do,

Re: Window Tinting (Film)

Whats the heatgun / hairdryer for? Heats up the adhesive to make it a bit more workable?

Re: Window Tinting (Film)

its to dry the tint out and ta soften it a bit so it conforms to the contours of the glass. you need to apply the tint with soapy water mix so it can be repositioned and moved, then you push the creases out and dry the water out of the tint with the hairdrier.,
