Hi All,

Problem number 999 with my JTD,

I've just been to get an oil filter change at kwikfit and they said they could'nt do it because the pipe going from my oil filter to the engine (ipresume) was looking a bit rusty so it might cause damage. I asked if they could fix the pipe and they said no chance its a fiat dealer part you will have to take it to a fiat garage and it will cost quite a bit ?

anyone know what the part is called and an average price to have the work done so i don't look like an idiot when i take it in to garages.

Thanks in advance,

Its a

sounds like there just fobbing you off get your dealer to change the oil for you and see if they mention anything about the pipe I have never heard of anything like what you describe happening

personally I would never let quick fit touch my car I see all to often what they do to peoples pride and joy

Hi

Thanks for the feedback,

The guy showed me the part

its the metal pipe that is attached to the oil filter it runs from the filter up under the engine and then into the front of the engine below the oil cap, sorry i can't describe it any better. He said it was rusty and it may do more damage than good if i have an oil/filter change.

I'll take it to dealer this weekend , i just don't want to get ripped i've spent A LOT of cash on my car over the last 3months.

and yes kwikfit was'nt my best move ! i took it their 2 months ago because i needed a new back box fitting , i had already been told all i needed was a back box. They had a look and said it was a dealer part and it would cost me £470 + vat as it was all one part welded and it would need a complete system including cat. I took it to a local garage and they fitted a back box for £90 !(thats another story)

do you mean these pipes if so they are coolent pipes not oil pipes

quite correct these pipes carry coolant to and from the oil cooler these often look quite rusty but they are quite thick and I cant see why they wont change the filter it wont affect the condition of these pipes in any way

any way I'm sure you wont be going to quick fit again

ps if quick fit phone us asking for parts we tell them there is only one pipe from front to back after all we don't want them taking all our work when in fact there are separate parts available from fiat and also motorfactors these days so I don't know why they dint source them from there

and they would have probably fit it all wrong anyway i seen one melt into someone bumper on a stilo Abarth before now I have also seen them fit 2 completely different tyres before now

my experiences of quik fit are crap stay well away..... the few times i,ve been were last minute attempts when i had few choices
in my neck of the woods they have let me down & i have walked away.....

wow thanks everyone for your help, told you i was a bit stupid when it came to cars ! i'm going to ring round today and get the work done. I'll post the results:)

:)
took my car to 'national tryes' - changed the oil and filter £25 no problems ?????????????????????????

nevermind all is well and i think kwikfit need to re-train employee's !

Don't touch Quick-fit. I went for a rear section of my exaust about 3 years ago (Mk1 punto) and was charged £145. I've just had the same section changed by my local garage and they charged me £75 for the part. (3 years later)
