i have a 1.1 s n reg punto and when i removed the radio to repace a bulb that has gone when i put the radio back in i did not need the radio code i no thay have codes is there any problams i dont no about. ps the radio works fine now i have all funtions

Did you physically disconnect the radio from the wiring loom? If the radio would still be getting power from the battery, it wouldn't need the code.

same with my radio... took it out of my punto to put it in me dads as his had been at the dealership for some work and when they switched back on the power the radio was demanding its code so it had to be sent off...

however i have the code for my radio so was ready to put it in when the radio was slotted into his car, didn't need it, worked perfectly and never demanded the code when it returned to my car either... sounds like a glitch with some radio's security system...

When my battery died on me I "lost" my radio. I had to have a code, which I didn't have. So I got another Fiat MKII radio and that wouldn't work either, as it was better quality than the original one fitted. Ended up just buying a whole new Radio , not a fiat one and that worked. Apparently it has a computer or some sort of code that connects your radio with your car or something like that! It's for security reasons - so I was told!

Here is the score as far as I know:

As charlottet and Custard boy both said,

Mk2 Punto body computer communicates with the standard fit Blaupunkt radios ( but not the 'LOW or the Sat Nav one) Once you have entered a correct code body computer 'remembers' the radio and doesn't ask for it again if you unplug radio from the car.

If your car battery goes flat, is disconnected or body comp somehow has power trouble then it will 'forget' and code will need reentering

The communication between headunit and body comp is via the CAN bus which is one of the mini ISO's that Plug in the back.

I have no knowledge of the Mk1 but I believe it does not have CAN communication, what does the back of the radio look like does it have any connectors other than the 2 rectangular 8pin sockets and the aerial?

I'm sorry that I haven't actually provided a solution but I hope I've confirmed some other people's views.

The painful thing is when I got in touch with Fiat they said they only keep radio codes for 3 years then they are wiped and told me I needed to take my car into a dealership to have it totally re programmed. :( So I just ended up buying a totally different radio.

Ah well all is not lost you prolly got a better radio now :D

It's cool now thankfully. Was annoying for a while, but I've got over it! HAHA! Thanks for your concern. But it's ashame for people who have to go thru the same thing as me for radio codes! And people who aren't members of this cool forum! :)

When I bought my secondhand Mk 1 Punto a few years ago there was no code with it. When I pointed this out, the dealer took it to a local Autosounds car audio place and got it re-coded for me. It may be they could do this for anybody in similar situation if you can prove it's your radio (or even if you can't?);)
