I hope someone can help! I have an m reg punto 90 elxi 1.6. I have had this car for a year and only had to change the exhaust. Over the past few weeks it has been playing up when i start it now for a few days, the engine failure light has come on. I have looked in the manual and am totaly confused! The thing is it doesnt stay on if i start the car up a few times. Has any one got any ideas of whats wrong and if its going to be expensive? Thanx x

£40 to find out what the problem is (not fix it!). Typical warning lights earning more money for the garages. I think the law needs to be tightend up on these things. Very rarly is there a fault with the engine or system, its the frigging sensor or wiring loom.
Money making scam every time (n)

Which light was it exactly....'engine failure' is a big vague...do you mean the injector light?

yes the injecter light (looks like a sparking spark plug!) Ive had people tell me its the ignision, injection, emmisions, nothing to worry about, and the cat!     Ive just gone out to start it and it hasnt come on!

When the light is on i have to put my foot to the floor to get speed up, but i have only driven once with the light on, if the kight comes on when i start her up then i turn her off and start her up again then the light doesnt come on at all, not even after i have been driving for a while. Some times i can go out and it wont come on at all, it hasnt come on today, yet! When the light is off she drives with no problems. Shes been loud since ive had her but was told by kwikfit who replaced my exhaust, that its because shes old!!!! Getting the manifold checked tomorrow, someone suggested that it could be the join from the exhaust to the manifold. This would affect my emmisions wont it? In the manual it says that the light can come on if the emmisions arent right????    The thing is ive been told soooo many things!!!!:bang: Im a single parent and im worried that shes had it, i cant afford another car, perhaps i should seell her as she is?

Sounds like its the Lamba Sensor. The sensor is on the manifold and checks the oxygen level coming out of the engine. It can be temperamental like you say it comes on sometimes but other times its fine. The Sensor costs about £60 plus fittings costs. Dont worry your engine hasn't had it yet.

Thankyou ever sooooo much for all of your help. I will try that stuff and see how it goes. I didnt get the manifold checked yet, the garage suggested i have it serviced instead to check everthing properly, which i wont be able to do until i get back from holiday. Let you all know how she gets on. Thanx again xxxxxxx:)

MY CAR DIED!!!! Called the rac out, he said its the immobiliser, after 3 hours of checking everthing he said he couldnt do anything so towed me home!
So now i really need to get rid of the immobiliser! Thankyou for all of your help xxxxx
