Hi welcome to the forum:)
i would change the oil before changing the box. should be done every 40.000 miles on a punto.
and you shouldn't realy be driving if you are only 13.

i wouldn't fit a new box just because of a noise what until it breakes first.

Heh, my gearbox broke last autumn. Final drive went, although its wasn't noisy beforehand - it just suddenly went, made lots of clonking noises and gave intermittent drive to the nearside wheel.
I fitted a complete 'box from a scrap car, but finally got round to dismantling my old one at the weekend. Basically, in the final drive there's the differantial, which has 2 small gears mounted on the crownwheel and these gears drive another 2 gears which are each connected to a driveshaft. The small ones mounted on the crownwheel were both knackered - 5 or 6teeth had been stripped off each one! (Found the teeth in the bottom of the casing [xx(])

Moral of the story? FIAT make sh*te differentials! :p
