Hi guys, bought a bumper from the active sport to fit onto my active.

The only problem is that this bumper is painted in a different colour to my car and has a couple of deep gashes and scratches because the previous owner wrote their car off and the bumper was the only salvagable part. Im looking to prepare the bumper for painting and was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what i need to do to remove the old paint and repair the various scratches and gashes out of the plastic in order to keep bodyshop costs down?
Any help would be great!
Cheers, Scotty (y)

if the gashes are deep then i'd say you'l need to filler them, smooth the filler down to the same level and smoothnes as the bumper by going down the varieties of abrasive papers and then wet and dry and rub the whole bumper down (or rub the whole lot down at the same time and get your filler level then) then primer it if you're willing to have a go to save the bodyshop doing it although most seem to include primering in the price of spraying. Actually the bodyshop i take mine to the guy preps primers and sprays all in a oner so it might not be too expensive. Thats my 10 cents on it, maybe some one into doing most of their own body work could give you some better advice :)

thanks for the advice mate i reckon ill have to do some of the prep work myself because the gashes are quite big and will require filler but thanks for the advice. Im gonna get my door handles and mirrors sprayed at the same time just hope whoever i go to for the spraying does a gud job or else its straight back to complain. Thanks for the advice mate!

if you get a **** job done at the spray painters theres a good body shop over here in carlisle, it'd only be about an hour to an hour n a half drive for you, he did all the work on my bootlid, rust removal, colour coding, debadging delocked and wiper removed, primered and sprayed for £80 ! the only problem for you would be getting back home then back to pick up the car.

if your looking to save more costs ou could have a blast at the handles and mirrors yourself, although i personally wouldnt.

thats an absolutely class price u payed there nd judging by your profile pic he did a good job for the price as well. Ill keep that in mind cos i know a bloke in the business who should do it but if its more than that ill check out the bodyshop that u know! Im not fussed about the drive like had to go to middlesbrough to get my bumper nd my girlfriend would probs follow me down lol!

Quick question about the delocking bit mate, does that mean that u can only access the boot by the lever in the drivers footwell or did u buy a popping system to fit onto the boot? Cheers, scotty
