I'm just off the the phone to my local dealer parts department about getting blue keys for my 1998 60S. Basically they quoted me almost £90 for 2 blue keys. They can only sell them in pairs apparently. He told me that they were self-coding. The procedure for coding them is:

Insert the red key and turn it so the dash lights come on.
Remove the key.
Insert the first blue key so the dash lights come on.
Remove the key.
Insert the second blue key so the dash lights come on.
Remove the key.
Insert the red key again so the dash lights come on.
Remove the key.

They said that after this procedure I would then have a full set of coded keys. Almost £90 seems a bit steep for 2 blank keys. I had a search of the forum and was unable to find any mention of this.

Can someone confirm that this is correct?
Is there anywhere cheaper to buy 2 blank chipped keys?
Will me using the red key damage the CODE system?

Sorry about all the questions, but this has me confused... :(

If you go to the keycutters, you can buy one at a time from there...so would be £65 cheaper ;)

And none of the mucking about with coding it yourself with using the red key and lights, cos they will do it for you...just make sure they dont just clone up a new red, but you actually get a blue key funtion :)

EDIT: the key cutters will supply, cut and code your key for approx £25

Just a point or two, you cannot make a blue key from a red and vice versa. so if you have only a red key then you need 2 previously coded blue keys as the Fiat man said. Otherwise you can copy as many blue keys as you like. Key cutting shops generally cannot make up a programmed key without a key to copy from.

I understood that I can buy a blank blue transponder key from eBay and use the technique above to code it to the car?
If you have a blue key already, then yes you can copy it onto the ebay keys, or get the whole thing done at local shop.
If you only have a red key and you do this you get 3 red keys, you probably wont notice any difference though.
