Technical bonnet release lever came off in sons hand - cannot get it back on HELP

I posted this somewhere else but am unfamiliar with the forum so apologies for that.

If anyone can give me any hints on how to put the lever back, I have had a really good look and cannot see anywhere for it to attach, no sign of the bonnet release cable or anything. I am looking under the steering wheel to the right, near the drivers door, where the lever used to be!!

If its mk2 its mounted on 2x8mm studs/bolts.

mk2 it goes over at the side behind fuse box the whole lot bolts on with 2 8mm spaner size nuts

The handle has come off on my Mk1, have tried and tried to push it back in but i can see me getting rather badly injured if I put much more force onto it

Thanks for your replies, I guess its a Mk1. Its a 1999 model.

All I have is the red lever which doesnt appear to have anywhere to put nuts or bolts. Have attached photo. I cannot see any cable dangling anywhere in the car but I guess when I find it the end fits through the hole in the middle of the red lever. cheers for your help

ah yeah tis mk1 goes in steering coloum, remove coloum botton cover to see what you are doing

it just clips in, i never got round to doing it on my sisters, its quite hard, you dont need to remove anything, i think you just need to be strong, which im not lol

bummer, I just cannot see anything to clip the lever into. I was trying to avoid the garage but my car needs water and MOT week after next so i think i will have to get it 'fixed' by someone at garage.

do you really need it fixed anyway? my sisters was without for a year or so, to open, you just put the cable in the handle, and pull, easy lol

if you remove the bottom panel as suggested , this is what you have to do--hope its of some use

bet you pushed it instead of pulling it

yes, pushing it results in the lever popping off its mount, but as long as the wires still in it, its easy to put back on,

if the wires come out, you'll have to slot it back on, then pop the mount.

Thanks guys! I had the same problem with my Marea.... came off in my hand when I wanted to change the water, and was just resting on the pedals.
