I just got a good deal on a 95 Punto 75. The car looks new and drives nicely. The only problem, aside from no rear speakers, is the heater does not work. When I turn the heater dial on, the only thing that comes out of the air vents is a strong burn smell. It sounds (and smells) like the heater core needs replaced. But, I am curious if anyone has other ideas/suggestions.

No wet carpet. The windows do steam up a bit. If two people are in the car, the fan speed needs to be on 2 to keep the steam off the windshield. However, I have only driven the car 3 days, each of the 3 being very humid and rainy.

when my heater matrix went there was no wet carpet, just steamed up windows and horrible smell.

Just a note.

In cold countries like Norway (and Sweden that im from) its quite normal that the windows steams up in the winter and early spring/late autumn. Because of the cold windows and warm air from the lungs. Couldnt it be the thermostat if not the heater matrix?

if its got that old fishy egg smell i would say its the matrix

Thanks for all of the input. In terms of smell, the air from the heater smells like something burnt. In addition, my wife drove the car today. The weather is dry and warm and she had no troubles with fogging windows. There is no indication of a leak in the matrix at this point.
