Alright guys and girls,

Getting a little bored of only having a 1.2 engine in the car now and although i love the car to bits i want something quicker, its a 60sx.

Ive done all sorts making it look tidy and personalising it so i dont think i would/could bring myself to sell it,

One of my freinds said i could stick a new engine in, i was thinking a 1.6 just to make it quicker out of junctions etc.

How easy is this going to be ? is it easyier said than done ? my mates done numerous engine swaps and said he could do it, will a 1.6 go into my engine bay and everything connect up ok ?

Is it going to be worth it, im only going to have to pay for the engine so what you guys think ?

Im really really temped to do it but wanted some advice first.

Or failing that whats the easiest way to get my 60sx up to 100bhp :D

Cheers as always

the insurance will be more expensive than it would if you bought a faster car to start off with, as a general rule.

? which 1.6, cos the punto 1.6 ain't worth it?

Try searching all the threads, you'll soon see what problems are involved . Then come back here and ask some specific questions stating what it is you intend to do. Then you'll get valuable and useful advice.

Easieast way to get your punto to 100bhp? Intake, Mkcritch, 75 cam, 421 exhaust manifold, supersprint exhaust, 40mm tb Thats around 80 then add nos Job done.

Or mpi head - modified,. intake, 75 cam (or fast road cam), 421 exhaust, supersprint exhaust + remap (megasquirt?).

or 1.2 16v with supersprint, plus intake work (not quite there)

or a low boost turbo, check the cinq forums.

My advice, read lots of threads and then when you ask people will take interest because you've already done the leg work

You'll need sporting discs up the front as well

Gt conversion if you want a load more power...but it basically involves buying a GT...so unless your car is SERIOUSLY modified exterior already...not really worth it.

Im sorry if the question came across as lazy,

Basicly like i said in first post ive become bored of the poxy 1.2 and want to give it more power.

My mate suggested putting a new engine in and i figured the best one id get away with one be a 1.6, i know a GT is out of the question as the insurance will be stupid and there will be far too much to change/convert.

I was wondering if its going to be worth it thats all and what engine would be worth dropping in.

Im afraid i cant be more specific as my knowledge of cars isnt that good, ill have a word with my mate about changing a few things and see if i can get some more power that way.

Soon as i hit 25 it will be going to my girlfreind or sister as i really want a Punto GT,

Long live the Punto, Salute

so you obviously are not interested in reading the 200+ threads on engine conversions and problems/benefits related with each.

my 2cents, and it will only be 2 since you can't be arsed to read.

1242cc 16v engine from a sporting/85elx.

dead easy, change engine over, and engine wiring loom, and some fueling things, and thats it, turn the key and it will run, simple as pie and an instant 27bhp just like that.

then add some head work, a supersprint exhaust right thru, remap, and your talking mid 90's bhp wise.
its more than you think, and you could do the basic engine swap for maybe £150-300 if you did the work yourself.
you've said you know feck all abotu engines, meaning your gonna be paying a garage, so take that £150-300 throw it the hell out the window and make it £1000.
and thats THE CHEAPEST EASIEST engine upgrade available to you

Of course im intrested in reading threads thats why im here,

And no i wont be paying a garage to do it, one of my freinds has a garage and he said he would do it.

Thats all i wanted to hear, the first 3 lines of your post wasnt neccesary,

Of course im going to read up about it and see if its really worth it and figure out what wants doing, just thought id make my own thread so i could ask questions which are more about my car and not other peoples.

Sorry :(

As engine swaps go its dead easy, and it isn't easy, trust me.

Just food for thought. Swapping my 1.1 8v for a 1.2 16v on my sei has given me a roughly 270% insurance hike. From 320 fully comp to 860 fully comp. thats with 7 years no claims.

CAn you afford something liek that? Try HIC online quotes to see how much it'll roughlt be. May make you change your mind :D
