Hi

I am new to this forum and hoping someone can help.

I have a Punto 75sx 1997 which has been running fine until recently when it has started revving really high. When I switch the engine on the revs go away up to 2000 and stay between 2000-1500 revs. If the revs fall to 1500revs it tries to get it back up again to 2000revs - even when I don't have my foot on the gas.

Also, when I turn my ignition off the engine keeps running for a couple of secs.

At around the same time when the revs started going crazy, my fuel filter went and had to be replaced - prob no connection though.

Can anyone help?

Hi I am also new to this forum and have a similar problem.

I have Punto 60SX Selecta 1999 (Automatic) which I bought in December all was fine until earlier this year when I noticed it over revs up to 5-6000 when pulling away from a standstill and will not gather speed I have to take my foot off the accelerator and try again a couple of times then it will suddenly find the gear and go. I took it to Fiat in Croydon and they did a diagnostic and the report came back as accelerator switch and throttle potentiometer. They replaced the accelerator switch and apparently cleaned and reset the throttle potentiometer costing me 127 notes. This seemed to solve the problem for 3 weeks then it started again only this time more frequently. I have booked it into Fiat again and will keep you posted with results.

In the meantime does anyone have any clues? Is this a known problem with Fiat cars?

the engine still running on after it being switched off used to happen on my dad's sierra may it rest in peace... caused probably by carbon deposits on the valves being burned once the engine is switched off..

I would get your ignition timing checked if I were you.
with modern engines and unleaded petrol de-cocking should be a thing of the past.
QUICK FIXES DON'T COME IN TIN'S.
