Hi,
I live in Mallorca where good mechanics are like hen's teeth... so..

My 2010 Punto Evo 1.4 Multiair 105hp Sporting has the common problem of the seats no longer sliding and tilting using the handle on the side of the seat.

Having done online research, inc Youtube, I now have a good idea how to:

(1)Disconnect airbag and passenger sensors under the black covers in front of the seat . Should I also disconnect the battery first btw or is disconnecting the multi pin connector sufficient ??

(2) How to remove the seats, and remove the seat covers ( at least partially) and get to the part where the seat-cable connects to the release mech.

I have finally found a site online that gives Fiat part numbers - See attached screenshot (can't post a URL but the attached screenshot shows it if you want to view the page) ;)

The part number for the release cables seem to be 55703992 & 55703993
Labelled Item No 1 - These are the cables I think I need.
Assuming they are broken and not simply detached..

My questions are these:

Do I need any of these below too?

Part labelled No 21 on the diagram
part numbers are
55701767 & 55702371 - Rod Right & Left.
Is this part of the mechanism?

Part number 14560187 - Labelled No 12 -
Just called " strap" - do I need this? and whats it for?

Finally, will I need to remove the side airbags from the seat to get to anything or make the job easier?

Can't find anything online that shows exactly how the seat works and what each of the parts does. Anyone with good knowledge of these issues would be very helpful to me.

I have to collect my son and his new bride on their honeymoon from the Airport next week and now BOTH bloody seats have failed. The passenger side has been bust for ages but the driver's side was fine, until 2 days ago. Sods Law !!!

HELP !!
TIA

You can see how to disassemble the seats if you watch the video I made on installing heated seat pads.

The bit that releases the seat to slide is very fiddly and works on one of my seats and not on the other, it’s usually down to the steal cable that releases the catch stretching, I’m sure it can be fixed without replacing parts, I just never had the patients to play about with it.

Edit: yes I believe it is the part labelled 21 on that diagram, the cables from the catch go down to the hinges that release to allow the seat to bend forward, then the part 21 attaches to that mechanism and carries the movement down to an arm that pushes the handle down to release the seat to slide forward, there are a lot of moving parts and with age it gets a bit sloppy

Thank you, i suspected 21 connected with the opposite side of the seat somehow.
I can manage manually sliding the seat forward for now, but the seatback is a pain in the proverbial. I have just watched a video on your youtube channel called:

How to install Heated Seat in a Fiat Punto, panda, 500, Abarth, tipo,
I assume this is the video you refer to?

I assumed following your instructions I would need to unzip the upper seat cover but sadly, there does not appear to be any zips I can see or feel on mine I have the Sports seats in Fabric and Alcantara alike ..
So I guess it's a peel it upwards job to see where everything goes cable wise?
Do you think I will need to do the bottom seat pad out of the way to get the bottom of the top half? The seat is not out yet, so can't see how easy or difficult it will be to release the seatback cover when flipped over

Hi :)

The seat is probably no different to the 199 grande punto

Airbags want powering down.. minimum of 2 hours

Ideally disconnect the battery the day before you work on it ;)

Does your seatback have zips on the cover..?
Some of mine do
Hi,
No zips, it appears to just be stitched on those panels each side, but will have a proper look when I get the seat upside down and release the bottom of the seatback cover.

Thanks for the airbag tip !!
Q: So even if I disconnect the battery and the cables under the seat, still wait 2 hours after that yes?

Have to take the Mrs to the airport, so i can disconnect it when I get back, disconnect the seat connectors and go have a coffee and waste some more time on Youtube.
Or maybe wash my Motorbike ...

Also discovered the rear wash/wipe wash function now streams water onto the parcel shelf, rather than the outside of the back window.
So that's the high-level brake light coming out next, and hope it's just the pipe that's popped off and not somewhere out of sight! If its not one thing....
