Hello I have a 2010 Fiat Punto Evo GP with start/stop and I need a new battery, there are a few around ranging from £80-200+, I understand that I need an EFB battery to replace the original one, but I have heard that these batteries need some sort of coding/programming, is that the case?
A recommendation for a new battery would also be useful thanks

Hi :)

Years ago we would ask petrol or diesel.. but its less prononced with S-S systems draining constantly

My friend got a 'small diesel' spec. Yuasa delivered by Tayna batteries Wales.. to Oxford

It was @60% of what ECP were asking

When I got my battery I was looking all over for a battery, a lot of places just didn't have the one I wanted or if they did it was a couple of hundred pounds, all the places like ECP and GSF would tell me the variety of batteries they had but then couldn't sell me one because they didn't have them in or they did have them but they were a fortune.

Then I stumbled across the one on Amazon which was I think sold by a third party seller, cheaper than anything else I had found and more powerful. (y)

+1 for Tayna, I bought a monster Exide battery for my old 159, delivered for less than £80 granted it's an old school lead-acid battery.

Have bought replacement varta for the parent's Jag and 2 Exide JLR auxiliary batteries for half the cost of the dealer.

Your battery shouldn't need coding, the charging and battery management systems on these aren't that advanced.

Read your handbook for disconnecting, I seem to recall the voltage sensor terminal on the negative lead needs removing before connecting the battery.

Your stop-start might need a bit of time to start working again though

Hi Andy thanks a lot for your reply, could you confirm that the YUASA 700A EFB will fit my 2010 Fiat Punto Evo GP ? Thanks again.

You’ll need to do your own research as to the exact model of battery you need, mines a diesel so needs all those 700Amps to cold start, yours might not and you might need a smaller battery (re cheaper) if yours is a petrol. Should be able to looking up on YUASA website or another battery manufacturer would tell you what battery is needed

You might find it interesting to read the thread I posted when we renewed the battery in my boy's 2012 Punto 1.4 8valve Easy. I'm sure I had many of the questions you are asking in my mind at the time. https://www.fiatforum.com/leisure-lounge/485166-new-battery-punto.html?485166=#post4576824
Good luck.
Jock

PS the battery, very much an unknown make to me, is performing absolutely fine!

With regard to the need to program. Both my boy's Punto and my own Ibiza have EFBs. The Ibiza requires programming if the battery is replaced but the Punto does not. I think this is directly a function of the vehicle's ECU rather than the type of battery. A reprogram will be needed if the ECU needs to be "informed".

Strangely a 2014 Golf didnt.. so a 2012 FIAT is probably fine :)
