Hi all!

I'm the happy owner of a Fiat Punto Evo. Lately though, there's a bit of a sporadic problem.

Whenever I put on the indicators for a turn, and I let the wheel go to center, the indicators cancel like they should. But sometimes this also starts a 5 times indicator on that side as well. As if the button has been slightly pressed again.

I started having this problem after changing the position of some of the switchgear. It had some work done to it, and in the proces they mounted it all back kind of crooked.

Rest of the indicators work, apart from this problem.

What can i do to fix it? Lube the indicator stalks? loosen the whole unit and making sure it's mounted center?

Your car .. having the post Grande dash ..should have the 'lane changer' function on the indicators

Our 2012's do ;)

FIRM application of the indicator stalk gives 'traditional' operation.. ON until you cancel it

LIGHT action on the stalk means it returns to 'neutral' and does the 5 flash.. lane changer routine

Let us know what you find :)

Thanks! That works flawless and is very handy.

What happens is the following.
I use the firm application to indicate right.
I turn right.
Indicator gets turned off when steeringwheel is in center again.
Sometimes, during the proces of switching the indicators off, the 5 flash gets enabled. So the car indicates another 5 times where normaly it would've stopped indicating.

Hope that makes sense?

The wheel is dead straight, but the stalks were a bit of center. The Ignition was too, so I geuss the whole unit had been replaced in the history of the car.

I will loosen up what's mounted on the back and see where it goes to. I know the stalks are mounted with a clamp, but I believe they are also pushed in place by the wheel itself right?

I tried rapidly pushing the stalks up and down by the way, but that of course did nothing. What we do know is that the mechanism is quite sturdy and you'd need some real force to put things like switches out of whack.

Also interesting: tapping the stalks does nothing, pushing them a split second initiates the 5blink sequence. I guess this is to stop accidental presses, it's the same on other cars

Update:

Problem goes away as soon as the car warms up inside. It really is a classic south european car :D .

I guess putting some contactspray in there will also help.

Sorry to butt in, but a question on the lane change aspect
Im new to this car (2011 Punto Evo 1.4 multiair)
and I keep getting confused with the lane chage bit of the indicators
and cant seem to manually stop them
ie if I try to cancel them then they start going on the other side which would really confuse other drivers
I now have to always use the full indicator position such that i can manually cancel after 2 flashes etc if needed

Am I missing something or just need to be patient and wait for the 5 flash? lane change mode to self cancel

They take some getting used to..

A light tap will give 5 flashes..

I am 95% sure you can do a firm press AFTER.. cancelling the firm press should stop all indication :)
