Morning All,

I'm looking for some help please. For approx 6 years or so we've had a 2011 Fiat Punto Evo GP 1.4 16V MultiAir (non turbo).

The issue is for a good few years now I've had engine issues.

The common bubbling when starting the car, loss of power and engine cut out, opens up when it gets warm.

I have a regular oil change with the correct oil around every 6K. The engine will run fine once this is done for a couple of days and back to the old bubbling with a permanent engine management light.

I'm going to be honest it's ran like this for 3-4 years now with all the above issues and I've dealt with it, however, I'd like to get it sorted!

I've changed the MAP sensor which didn't work and after reading various threads I believe this could be potentially fixed without replacing the whole multiair actuator unit? Is this correct?

I've seen I cqn buy a multiair oil strainer as well, however, I don't think this alone will fix the problem!

Appreciate your help in advance

with a permanent engine management light.

You need to get the fault codes cleared as it’s been years, then run the car then check the codes again to see what’s actually currently the problem.

Swapping bits never works but will quickly ruin your bank balance.

I like Charlie have no idea what you mean by “bubbling” is it misfiring? Coil problem who knows, fault codes is always the place to start

Many thanks for the replies. I've had the codes cleared and they come back on. Bubbling I mean missfire, the revs are terrible, the engine stutters and has no power when I turn the car over and it seems it only opens up and gets power after driving for 5-10 minutes.

I can't remember what the code is so will need to get it checked, think it's a missfire on one of the coils.

After 5-10 minutes if I turn the engine off and on again quickly when driving this sometimes helps.

Does anyone know if the multiair actuator can be repaired or does the full unit need replacing?

Many thanks

Misfire..
We want the Code ideally

A specialist in the South Of England had gaskets made up that replaced the leaky original.. saving @£500 per car

Hi, I have this problem too since the last 3000 km. I cleaned the multiair oil strainer, did an engine flush, did an oil and oil filter change, cleaned the multiair oil strainer again (just to be sure) and changed the spark plugs.

The engine code is P1063 and I have cleared it several times, it keeps coming up. It also clears itself after a while.

When the engine is cold, it starts quite well and idles without a fuzz, but it starts sputtering after 300 m when there is more demand for power, the engine runs suddenly for a fraction of a second on three cylinders and almost cuts out, sometime runs a bit longer on three cylinders and starts to shake heavily, but most of the time it there is only a sudden and very brief total loss of power without the engine cutting out. The problem of power loss then goes away on its own with the engine heating up. It has never happened with a warm engine. However, the engine noise has become a bit more "straining" and the engine seems to run slightly rough.

I did some research, it is a octobre 2010 car (1.4 l Abarth Punto Evo) and it seems those early multiair units have a tendency to get some bolts loose because the thread is to weak or they had not been tightened up correctly.

Firstly apologies for the delay in reply and thank you for your reply. Mine is exactly the same as yours!

I'll take a look at the link you've sent, I've also been told the same as you as a bolt coming loose. My mechanic was willing to look at it, however, he was uncomfortable with taking £150 off me incase he stripped the engine and it didn't work!

If you have any update on yours it would be much appreciated.

I'll keep you posted on mine!

Someone recently had a problem with multiair engine no compression on one cylinder. He removed multiair unit and found one of the screw in plugs had completely unscrewed. He refitted the plug with threadlock applied and his engine was fixed(-:

Sounds like you have a good mechanic who is worth £150 even if your problem does turn out to be different.

Ok so late reply, here's the current code: P1061.

I initially took my car to my mechanic after approx 1 year of discussing what we/he can do to find a solution.

Upon agreeing to strip the engine and take out the MultiAir unit as my engine had become increasingly less responsive and cutting out all the time and going into limp mode, he found the breather hose had a tear in it. The tear was underneath the hose (not visible) whilst this got the engine back up and running, codes reset my engine management light came back on. I immediately stopped and checked the code with his Snap On Modus Ultra.

The code shows P1061 which to me indicates a cylinder 1 solenoid issue.

Can anyone help with the below, also I've noted a few questions:

Question 1:

I see people mention removing the MultiAir actuator unit, tightening a loose bolt (which is a factory fault as not tightened correctly or come loose from the thread) how would this help resolve the issue of the solenoid? My mechanic seems to think it's the solenoid and cannot understand how tightening this bolt would resolve?

2) Can I replace a single solenoid? I've explained to my mechanic I don't think this is possible, however, he states each solenoid has a 10mm bolt so feels they can be replaced? I was always lead to believe it had to be a full MultiAir unit replacement.

Just to clarify, as mentioned in my previous thread I've done everything else possible to the engine, changing parts, oil, filters, strainer, map sensor which hasn't worked.

I look forward to your reply gents!
