I recently bought a kit to install an aux cable in my 2010 Evo. I wanted to try and keep the blue and me features without splicing wires together so the kit I bought has a splitter that allows for both aux iso harnesses to be plugged in at once. I installed the splitter and ran the aux to where I wanted it, plugged in my blank usb, turned on power and it worked first time. I didn't get a chance to test it any further though because when I tried to push the unit back into place: A it wouldn't fit no matter how I tried to run the cables, and B because after my many attempts to force it into place it would no longer power on. I tried removing the new parts and leaving it as it was but still no power.

Have I completely broken it or am I missing a simple fix?
 
First check is fuses.

There will be a fuse in the car fusebox.

There may also be a fuse on the back of the radio, but the car one is the most likely.

Also check that none of the wires into the various connectors have become detached during the process.

A simple test lamp, or meter will help establish whether power is arriving at the permanent 12v supply, and whether it can then get through the various connectors to the radio.

Hiding wiring behind radios is always a problem, there's rarely a simple fix. Much swearing and skinned knuckles are necessary.
 
Is it at all worth removing the larger unit with the hazard light button and such on it to access the wiring more easily? The 10a fuse in the radio seems fine, is there another one in the main fuse box too?

Anything you can remove to gain better access will help.

The fuse on the radio will blow if there is a fault within the unit.

There is a fuse in the car fusebox to protect the supply to the radio.
 
Right so I have checked all fuses and managed to squeeze everything back into place but it still won't power on. I still have access to my steering wheel controls for my phone but my mileage is now flashing. I read that this can sometimes be resolved by disconnecting the battery for a while but after 30 mins with the negative terminal removed, still no stereo

Mileage flashing is an indication that one or more of the modules connected via the CANbus system is out of sync. In this case, most likely the Blue&Me unit, but could be the radio. Other threads on here suggest Blue&Me can be fragile, so it may just be upset about the added circuitry, or it may be broken.
Disconnecting the battery will not reset the module synchronisation, that needs to be done using either factory software, or the wonderful MultiECUscan (MES). Search for that on here and have a read.

You need to establish whether power is arriving at the radio.
You need to ensure all other connections are good.
Then you will have a better idea whether you have broken the power supply, or the radio.

If the car has Blue&Me, surely it already has a USB port for updates, which also works as an Aux connection?
 
Yeah, a friend of mine plugged in a diagnostic machine and tried the alignment but turns out it was just a blown fuse that I couldn't reach. It's now working perfectly
