Hi
Looking for some advice for my Punto Evo Sporting 2010 1.4 petrol

Couple of months back replaced the starter motor (start/stop type) and earth strap and she ran fine. Couple of wks back she started taking 2 or 3 attempts to start so got her serviced and replaced the Spark Plugs.
Still no change and last 48hrs she won't start just cranks.
I checked the battery voltage and is sitting at 12.55v so feel the battery and alternator is fine. Plugged in to check for errors and comes back clear (used a mechanics snap on device)
No visual issues with connections/wires that I can see in the engine bay.

Totally stumped, any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul :)

Can you hear the fuel pump whirr under back seat??

Its got a filter within it.. ;)

Charlie
Hi Charlie,

Yup she whirr's so to speak. Just went out to recheck and she started first time. Again no lights on the dash, sitting here with no idea what is happening/going on with her lol [Driving me crazy]

Hi Charlie,

Gonna wait till the wknd, hopefully have my cousin popping over as he is a mechanic and he wanted to rule a few things out. Will update on his findings and hopefully what is wrong with her.

Cheers,
Paul

When cranking on starter motor does the rpm needle move at all or just stay totally still?
Jack

Im not sure mine do..

(Jack is fishing for a bad crank sensor.. doesnt tell ecu that car is turning over..)
; )
Hi Charlie , you are correct I was thinking possible bad crank sensor (-:

My cousin thought that but fault diagnostics ran and came back clear, so he wanted to come down and check due to what I have done already.

I can use a multimeter to check earth or are jump leads better (just trying to work with what I have)

Hi Both,

Apologies for the delay, just been so busy. Bought a mk3 St diesel and she had issue with parking sensors module so having to take back to get resolved....
Right punto still not starting and the issue is pointing towards the starter motor being faulty. (just replaced 4 months ago) so not touching and taking back to the garage who fitted as have 1yr warranty. Let them fork out. Will keep you's updated.

Cheers
Paul

Latest update:

Back from the garage who fitted the starter motor with same starter however they identified the earth wire had frayed and when testing was intermittent starting.
Replaced with a more heavier duty cable and working fine as normal. As the starter is still in warranty they confirmed if any problems occur just to get back to them and they will replace.

Hopefully all solved as I can now sell her for someone else to enjoy.

Cheers All
Paul
