Hi all!

New user here.

Took the plunge on an auction on a Fiat Punto Evo only to go and win it.
its came with a few issues on the dash that I'm obviously wanting to sort out!

IMG-20200514-WA0003.jpg

As you can see from this image, its showing Air bag and ABS errors.

The airbag for the passenger side isn't showing using the side menu at the side of the steering wheel.

Its also showing the ESP, ABS and hill hold errors.

Iv been searching online and the forum for common faults, but finding it difficult to find any info!

I juiced the battery up overnight just to make sure its nothing to do with a low battery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What year?
What engine?
Manual or auto?

You will need a code reader capable of reading the abs module and the air bag module to find out why the warning lights are on and go from there.

Looks like you may be investing in multi ecu scan together with the cables to connect to your new project.

You cannot clear these codes by disconnecting the battery and performing witchcraft on the car.

Hi and welcome :)

Its basically still a grande punto under is new style dash..

So all of the ASR.. etc threads are of use

SEARCH on here is great.. as you can specify which models your ABS ..or whatever.. search relate to

This is useful too:

https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/318839-electrical-gremlin-thread.html

But.. as stated MES will help no end

There is a register of members dotted around the Uk ;)

Where are you based?

Charlie..near the M4 :) 07 diesels 2012 petrols

Sorry, completely forgot to put the obvious haha

Its a 2011, 1.2 Petrol, Manual.

I suspected Id need some sort of diagnostic kit tbh, sadly mine does not read Fiat (mainly BMW, VAG etc)

Thanks for the info!

I'm based in Manchester, so ill ask nicely and see if there any members willing to help me with MES.

Hopefully its nothing too severe haha

Ok, so as usual, I got bored and curious!

So I got MES, and it seemed to perform well with one of my Bluetooth readers (I did order a switchable scanner cable too, but ahh well haha)

This is what I got back.

The ABS stuff I know of, as I removed the front right cable as I noticed it was split.

But the others means nothing to me at the moment, I shall be doing some googling, but if anyone can give me a heads up that would be great too!

I know its not reading the full airbag module so will do a scan when my wire turns up.
Iv been advised to try a Proxy Alignment, to see if this helps.

Cheers

EDIT.

So just did some digging to look at the Airbag control unit, and it looks nothing like what Iv seen online at all?

Does this look normal to you guys?

Progress.. :)

You can SEARCH the specific code on here..

But suspect a 'relearn ' : proxi alignment will be a great start ;)

Just edited my post above to mention I have been advised to do a proxi alignment!

Shall do so when my new wire arrives as iv notice my current one isn't reading the airbag module fully anyway.

Hi all!

I'm back again now that I have finally got all the wires and stuff I need to scan everything!

Sooooo, My Airbag light it still haunting me, and I just cant seem to get rid of it.

Im getting this error...

IMG_20200604_150914.jpg

And no matter what I cant connect to the module at all.
I managed to do a Proxi alignment and that was absolutely needed, as now my dials mileage is no longer flashing.

What could be the cause of this error I'm getting ATM though?

I'm guessing the Airbag Control Unit is the thing I pictured above?

Is it normal for the passenger seat to have no wiring under it at all, as I thought it had a passenger sensor or do not all cars have this.

Also, maybe a connected issue.

I STILL cant get rid of the ABS error ether.
It states the front right was faulty, and when I looked the wire was damaged.

but I have changed this and its still throwing up the error after I clear it.

I checked Live data on all ABS rings for speed, and they all show a reading except the front right.

Are there any common Loom failure points that I should look for?
anything that may connect my 2 issues?

Cheers for any help!

The Damaged wiring you report could have caused a short circuit. This may have damaged the input to the ABS ecu. Sadly you may not be able to rule out this fault without tracing all the wiring back to the ABS unit and then changing the ABS module.

The airbag unit is not showing up. You would need to establish if the Airbag ecu is getting power and earth and then and again potentially change the module.

This could turn into a very expensive endevour to fix the faults on this car, it is unusual to have these sorts of faults which may mean the car has been used for something it was never designed for, like a little urban off roading or swimming.

Ebay for replacement modules is realistically the next place to start.

However do make sure that every fuse and relay in the car is testing and working before you start splashing cash on it. The last thing you want is to be £200 into it and find it was a 10p fuse.

I'm not looking forward to racing all the wiring back.

Not a huge fan of wiring haha, its so hard to see/trace their routes!
Not exactly sure where the ABS ECU is atm, I'm guessing its that module behind the battery?

Ill have to do some googling, as im not even sure what pins are live etc on the airbag module ether.

ALSOOOO, i checked a fues diagram online for a Punto Evo, but cant see a fuse or anything related to the Airbag?
Is this true?
