Hi Everyone,

I have Punto Evo 1.4 8v Dualogic and I cleaned throttle body yesterday. I have a problem. While running the idle fluctuation occurs on the tachometer. How Can I do throttle body calibration ?

Oh! How did you clean the TB? did you take it off the engine or do it in situ?

I did take off it on the engine and It was very dirty. I used brake cleaner.
As a result, it has been cleaned very well, but I have an idle problem.

Seemingly the throttle position sensor needs calibrated as well, you do this by disconnecting the battery for 15 minuets or so, after that you start car up & let idle for some time. According to what I've read this will re learn the throttle body. Hope this helps.

Probably too well, brake cleaner is for brakes, it’s designed to get rid of grease and oil from brake surfaces and will easily strip the oil and lubricants out of the moving parts of your throttle body, the other problem with brake cleaner is it can and will damage electrical components.

Hunting as you describe can also be a sign of air getting into the intake system south of the throttle.

Assuming everything was working ok before you did this then there is no reason to need to calibrate the tb

Thank you for answer. I will try this.

I know it's used for brake cleaning. But it cleans metal components very well.I was careful not to touch an electronic hitch on the throttle.Just I cleaned metal component.

Hi Everyone Again,

I tried disconnect the battery until 30 minutes, but it didn't work, My problem continues :( Maybe it will better a little after driving.

Hi. I have same problem as you after throttle body clean there is fluctuation on tachometer. Please did you Solve your problem and how? Thanks

After reading this I think I'm going to clean it whiteout removing it. Supposedly with most electronic TB, if you have your key switch ON position ( not starting the car) and someone pushes the gas pedal, the butterfly valve should open , so you can clean it without removing it. Never push the valve open with your fingers as this can destroy the mechanism. Now I am not sure if you can do this trick on the punto. That is what I am also trying to find out so I can call someone to sit behind the wheel and push the gas pedal so I can clean the TB.

Update: I can confirm that the butterfly valve of the TB does not open when ignition is switched in on position and you push the Gas pedal ( 1.2 punto 3 and evo). So if you want to deep clean it, you wil have to take it off. I did not do this since I don't want to risk to relearn the TB and stumble across issues. So I cleaned it with spraying enough TB cleaner on the valve ( don't push it open with you fingers!) And wiped it clean with some cloth. It has to be good for now. Wil ask local mechanic for more about this in the future.
