hey, new to this site and need some help.

I have got a fiat punto Evo 2011 that's done 50k

(I havent been in my car for 24 hrs) but This morning I started up my car and i had like the only way to describe it would be over-revving sound. when i accelerate.

its happened before and usually it stops after a couple of minutes but this time it didn't. i pulled up at the petrol station about 20 minutes away from me and i could see slight smoke. i turned off my engine and waited 15 minutes (they told me that i needed to go).

as i got home the battery light came on and then started flashing and a strong burning smell like plastic

i rang my local garage but it was closed today. anyway i left my car for about 4 hours and a callout mechanic came to look at it and he was baffled.

there was no smoke, no sound, but there was like a burning smell.
he checked the battery and he said that was fine, whcih alternator was fine too.

there was not alot of oil in so that was topped up.

i just dont know what to do

has anyone else had the same thing?

It could be a sign that the alternator is seizing up, the only way to know for sure would he to take the alternator belt off and spin it by hand to see if there is any resistance.

Could be a sticky starter motor relay or related, maybe a short in that area. It is something that can pull enough current, overheat and able to reduce battery voltage without blowing a fuse. There is no fuse to the starter wiring. Might explain the over rev sound, maybe, if the motor is trying to turn through a weak parasitic connection, though not enough to throw the start pinion which you would surely notice!

How did he test the alternator?

Are you saying it has made the funny noises for 15 minutes AFTER the engine has stopped??
