Hi all,

Very close to joining the Punto Evo group, upgrading from my 1.2 Active Grande.

I have had an offer provisionally accepted on a 1.6 Multijet, however the only concern is mileage. I'm aware this is a Diesel, which supposedly can run forever... however would anybody be aware of problems with this engine over 100k miles? It's a rare breed is the 1.6, so having difficulty finding information!

Car has been well looked after. Close to FSH, new cambelt.

Not in an Evo but I have this engine in my Grande Punto. I've had it since new (59 plate) and it's now about to hit 107K. There were a couple of teething problems to begin with (broken water pump) however once sorted the engine itself has largely been fine. Cambelt was changed on schedule and it's been maintained by the same local garage since I bought it so they know it's history. It just passed it's MOT today although not back with me yet as I'm waiting for new handbrake cables. The sheathing for mine were cracked and resulted in a frozen handbrake way too often for my liking last winter so I've made the decision to have them replaced despite them still being road legal.

The worst thing for me is the suspension which I seem to break on a regular basis. However according to my garage it would help if I didn't drive it like a rally car round our local country lanes  I'm not sure if the suspension is harsher on the Grande Punto Sporting than the Evo so perhaps something to look into.

But in summary, engine ok, other things not so

It’s actually not a rare breed just rare in a punto, this engine is fitted to millions of vans around the world as well as the bravo and several other cars.

My 1.6 evo multijet sporting is now on 170+k miles and show no problems, still runs well and good fun to drive.

Best engine for the car in my opinion, good economy and power without the problems caused by twinair or multiair’s complicated valve control systems.

Thank you both, going to probably pick up on Sunday!

Yeah Andy, I remember you years back giving good information out on the Grande forum, was much appreciated. I had been looking at the Doblo 1.6, just wasn't sure if they were the same due to being quite a bit younger. Would be fantastic if this one reaches 170k *touch wood*
- Speaking of which, I'd like to get a manual spare key. Are you aware if these need the immobiliser chips in, or is it just cut to replicate the original?
