Hi there. Was wondering if someone may be able to help me. I’m working on a 2011 Punto Evo with stop start. The initial issue was a fault airbag control module. It was replaced with a second hand one that had the crash data erased on it. After fitting this airbag module the Engine management light has illuminated and is showing code P1850-15: Neutral position switch short circuit. I know that the vehicle never had this sensor from standard and the stop start would have worked via the clutch switch. something in the engine ECU has to be configured incorrectly by me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks.

I don’t know to be honest, it certainly might have been. It was bought online what significance might that have had?

Netrual position switch is something fitted to auto boxes, if the airbag ecu has programming for an auto and is looking for this sensor to make decisions about when or when not to deploy the airbags then it’s likely this is your problem.

Generally speaking you buy a replacement ecu that has exactly the same numbers on it as the one you take out. There can be a number of different types of ecu for one model year of car.
