Hi All,

My '11 Evo 1.2 8v is very loud under acceleration at 3500 rpm upwards as well as at 70 mph on the motorway. I have read a few posts about it being 'normal', but I still don't like it. It's not exhaust-blow loud; it's the engine itself.

Are there any parts on these that will cause it to get excessively loud as they wear? Will sound deadening material help at all?

Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question!

There aren't actual sounds like rattling or ticking; the engine is noise kind of resonates throughout the car.

Yeh, I suppose it does get louder as the speed and revs increase.

I have also noticed a quiet tick at low revs and cruising. It's really quiet.

On neutral, take another person which will press gas pedal and you inspect engine noise with head under hood. If engine is noisy also on neutral, we can:

1, ignore possible gearbox noise
2, determine if sound is going from the bottom of car -> exhaust

It can be for example blow exhaust manifold gasket... Because engine block itself shouldn't be extremely noisy (I think that it wasn't noisy before, that's why you are complaining it now, right...?). Also if you said that there's not ticking, rod knock or some specific sound, it should be definately from exhaust part of engine (or running engine with naked flap)
