Exclamation Punto Evo Sporting Multiair oil concern

Hi everyone,

I have just signed up to hopefully get an answer to my worry about the oil that was used by my local Fiat garage during an oil/filter change.

In short, I've been made aware of the importance of changing the oil frequently in my Punto Evo Multair engine (thanks to this forum). Unfortunately in my cars lifespan I have replaced 2 units so far and hoping I won't need to do it again

Today I took my car to get it's oil and filter changed and got it back this afternoon. I stated my car needed a certain type of oil and to be careful when doing the job. On return, I checked the invoice and a different type of oil that is recommended was used, which is very worrying. I was wondering if some clever person can advise me if I need to take it back to get changed again?

The oil that they have used is Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0w-30. In my manual (and recently up to this point) I have used Castrol or Selenia 5W-40 C3.

Is the type of oil used by the garage an alternative for my usual oil or should I be taking my car back ASAP to get it done again? I'd really appreciate any input on this one as quick as possible.

My car details: Punto Evo Sporting, 1.4 Multiair 2010

Thanks everyone!

Hi.
Correct additives..

But possibly the wrong grade.

Use SEARCH to find other MA oil threads ..
Looking for more conclusive info.

Re: Punto Evo Sporting Multiair oil concern

Hi Charlie,

Thank you so much for your speedy reply! It's much appreciated.

I've done some more research and it seems that the Multiair unit needs a certain type of oil, and it's not recommended to use any other. Since my model of car is 2010, it seems that I may need to take it back to get the 5W-40 C3 put in instead.

My car is classed as Euro 5, whereas models post 2015 appear to be Euro (which use 0W-30 C2 / C3). It may have been an error on the garages part. I will phone them on Monday and query it. I'll report back afterwards in case anyone else runs into a similar problem.

Scary you have had such issues with the injection unnits..

Have the proper filter removals been done?

Wrong oil suggests they are far from expert..

Re: Punto Evo Sporting Multiair oil concern

Hi all,

I just thought I'd leave an update on what happened with the oil in my car in case anyone else runs into a similar problem.

After querying it with the garage, they admitted that the wrong oil had been used afterall. They hadn't checked it properly before working on it (which is laughable considering they lable themselves a Fiat specialist branch). So I requested that they replace the oil, filter and Multiair filter for me. They of course did this free of charge. I only drove the car back from the garage after the wrong oil was used so I'm hoping no real damage has been done.

So lesson learned, always check the bill to see what work has been done on your car. I was lucky I caught this one. I'll not be going back to this Fiat branch again!

Thanks for your help varesecrazy

Re: Punto Evo Sporting Multiair oil concern

You were lucky,
Most garages that service your car NEVER tell you what type of oil they put in
ur car ,unless its a ferrari service and thats about 1500 pounds.
But yes they should know what type of oil an engine requires.
They basically ****ed up on that one,
Glad you got it sorted,
