Hi

I’ve just purchased a Punto Evo and on the display it states stop start unavailable? Does anyone know why this is? Would this mean an error with the car

Also if the car has been sitting a while at the dealer it might take a while to get some charge back into it before it starts working properly.

When I bought my evo I drove it 150 miles home from south London then back and forth to Cambridge for a week before the stop start suddenly started working again.

Interestingly, my MiTo (basically a Punto in a posh frock) almost never engages S&S. I do ~95 miles a day, mostly motorway with a few junctions at each end. It never says it's unavailable, it's just doesn't engage ...

It probably is a difference between the Alfa and the Fiat as the instrument cluster is different on the Mito. Basically on the fiat the Stop Start Unavailable message comes up for every thing, every time you stop in traffic it will display, every time you reverse the car is will display, If you look at the car funny or if the tide is in, it doesn't seem to take much to have it displaying the message.
Stop-Start works in my car but I still end up seeing the message a lot

You have to use diagnostics and clear all errors there. I solved this issue few days ago, when I electricaly unplugged injectors one by one on idle. I received engine icon + yellow triangle + Start/Stop unavailable check handbook and so on. I cleared error in ECU and everything OK ;-) S/S working again without any message

I had a similar issue with my Punto Easy, in my case it was the switch on the brake pedal starting to fail, no error message now, just doesn't engage like on the mito above
