Hello

I'm the lucky owner of a Punto Evo 1.4 8V from 2011.
I recently found that my boot was leaking water through a small "outlet" between two plates on the inside (See "Pic 1").
I looked all over the forums and found one fault that was similar.
He didnt find a solution though, as sealing the inside only will push the water further towards the center of boot.

We have been trying and failing until today when we discovered what we hope was the fault.
In the lower left corner of the tailgate, right besides the rubber seal of the actual door of the tailgate, there's a welding that seems to stop short. (See Pic 2)
The weld goes further on the opposite side, so it seems like a factory fault.
What we did to fix it, was to just seal the crack (it was covered in grime, so quite hard to spot) with some silicone. We did it along the line on Pic 3.

This has fixed it when we're spraying the rear of the car with a hose. If it happens again i'll post here, aswell as any new findings. I'm pretty positive this has been the fix though.

I just thought this might be nice for others to know, as this was really hard to find. This might also be relevant for other punto models.

If this has already been posted I'm sorry, but I haven't seen anything like this on this forum :)

Cheers,
Silas

Update. It leaked again. :( But it seems to just be down to us having been a bit rough on the rubber seal (Gasket?) that seals between the tailgate and the chassis. So be careful with it if you take it of, and ensure you put it on properly :) We put some silicone into the the seal/gasket where it was leaking, and it has stopped the leak, so far.

Congratulations on your fix. It's not unlike the problem I had with Becky, our 2012 Panda. There's a post in the Panda section I made earlier this year. Sorted with silicon sealant too!

Thanks. Wish I'd seen it before I began troubleshooting. :p

My leak is higher.. it drips onto the shelf brackets.. but a GAP in panels could well be the cause. Thanks..

Sad to hear it. It seams the boot leaking is very common for a number of different reasons on the Punto. Have a look around the forum, there are loads of posts on similar problems. The bootlid have a bunch of stuff that leaks very commonly. When I got my car the rear window wiper seal was leaking.

Good luck ;)

Cheers Sila! is your leek sorted now? I`m going to do this to my Grande Active tomorrow, so here`s hoping...Thanks for your input. Hoping to sell on as i`v just aquired a 1.4 Punto Jet Black ll 2013 model. Anyone out there with similar i would welcome any tips.

My Evo is also leaking water from the same side at the rear. I believe mine is leaking through the passenger side light, when I remove the light the rectangular seal has a 'pinch' in it & wont sit flush. Other than replacing the light unit itself, any ideas how I might obtain a new seal? Cheers

Yup, it did it for me. A small tip is to be careful if/When you pull the rubber seal of and put it on again. Accidentally bent it and it ended up leaking instead. But nothing silicone couldn’t fix ;)

It sounds likely that’s the problem. The seal needs to sit flush to work... I can’t really think of anything other than replacing the seal or full light unit.
Silicone would work I guess, but you will break the seal every time you need to access the light and have to reapply it. So it’s a bit haphazard.
Other than that I can only suggest you search around the forum because there is a lot of different solutions out there (water in the boot seems super common), and this thread was only really meant to show that this might be a solution if you have the same problem as me :)

I have a similar leak in the boot of my Punto Evo. I have looked around and everywhere else is bone dry apart from the hole under the black trim.
A way to make a water tight seal would be to use petroleum jelly/Vaseline around the placement of the seal then use silicon sealant. This way it will be water tight but you won't have to reapply the seal each time just the vas.
