Hello everyone, I am new to the forum & this is my first post having just bought the following car from auction...

Fiat Punto Evo Sporting, 1.4 (Turbo) Multiair, Petrol, 2010/60 Reg, 70k Miles. White.

As stated we bought the car from auction yesterday however the engine management light was flashing & there was a slight misfire so we knew it had an issue but as the the car is in near mint condition we have decided to take a punt on buying it.

On driving the car to our mechanic it was blowing out a lot of white smoke and was also missing badly on initial acceleration. We first thought one of two things, blown turbo or blown head gasket. So we dropped the car off at the mechanics however he's yet to have a look at it.

On returning home I was looking though the mountain of service history receipts and found the previous owners phone number. So I gave him a call and he said the problem started just a few weeks ago. He took the car to his local Fiat Dealership and they diagnosed the 'INJECTION CONTROL UNIT' and quoted him £1,100 to do the job!!! As he had paid out almost £1,000 on a service and new alternator over the previous two months he decided to cut his losses and traded the car in at a company called Listers for a newer car. His car was then sold at auction by Listers (obviously with no warranty/guarantee) and we bought it.

We called our local Fiat Dealers yesterday and they quoted £650 for a brand new Injector Unit and he did say to us in the 15 or so years he's worked there they have never sold one. That was just a general enquiry anyway because we intend to do the job ourselves. So my questions for all you lovely experts out there (of which I'm sure there are many!) are...

1. Is the Injector Unit on our car made only for the 2010 1.4 Petrol Turbo Multiair edition Punto or is the same injector Unit fitted on any other Punto engine so I can find one secondhand? If so what Punto models?

2. Where is the Injector Unit situated?

3. Does anyone have the actual part number for this?

4. As it is some kind of ECU will I have to have this programed to my own car or will it fit straight on & start working immediately?

5. Is there anyone in the UK that is breaking one of these cars or anyone that might have one of these units for sale?

Any help anyone can give us regarding this issue will be massively appreciated! Thank you all so much for your time!

Ok.

These motors use different tech.. and have a LOT of sensors driving the injection cycles.

You need a garage that :
1. Understands how the multiair works
2. Has the correct kit to work on it.

The common failing is loss of compression.. due to leaks within the multiair system.

Maybe look for an Alfa indy place near you

That is brilliant thank you! Our mechanic has come back to us and said the compression is down on two cylinders & we were panicking thinking it might need a new engine. But obviously our mechanic knows nothing about the multi air system as this is the first time he's worked on one. We are now going to take it to an Alfa specialist whos just down the road, hopefully his diagnostics machine will better pinpoint the problem.

Have you any idea what could cause a leak in the system? I'm presuming that the white smoke is because its burning too much fuel?

Thank you very much for your help.
