Hi,
I am wondering if there is a fault developing in my car or it just me previously driving a diesel car for many years.
I have got 1.4 petrol, 2010 with 39k on the clock.
When I put the car in the first gear and try to move the wheels or the clutch slips - I am not sure. Sounds like the wheels are trying to spin. The car is jittering a little (a second or two)
It only happens in low revs. With my old diesel car I was able to drive off without pressing the accelerator at all just by releasing the clutch slowly. With this petrol one I have to release the clutch in higher revs. or something slips (wheels, clutch?) Is this normal? No other problems with the gears or clutch.

The clutch is likely to judder if there's not enough revs on.

A diesel produces more low-end torque than a petrol engine and, as you say, can often pull away without touching the accelerator.

If your clutch was slipping in the true sense of the word you'd notice it at higher speeds - particularly when changing up or accelerating. The engine noise/revs would increase before the car picked up speed to match.
