Hello, I have recently brought a punto evo 1.4 dynamic 2010 and am new to FF. The heater / fan doesn't work anymore in my punto. Looking online, I tried to check the fuse for the interior heating but cannot find the fuse box on the dashboard and the instructions point to something that isn't there. I have also removed the heater resistor and taken a picture of the loom connector and resistor and believe that they need replacing but as the fan doesn't work on speed 4 I fear that I may need a new motor as well.

Looking at previous threads I have tried to wiggle the connectors but nothing happens. As a result I must leave the windows open while I drive to keep the windscreen clear. For a replacement I was going to buy a Vauxhall corsa D resistor and loom set and then crimp the new loom to the old section of cable which shows no signs of damage. Is this the correct approach as I'm new to cars but have worked briefly with electronics. Is there anything else I should do before I purchase these parts? Thanks

If I was you I would buy a new fiat loom, which is not too expensive, give the resistor a good clean up and fit a second hand heater fan. Then you'll be all good again

The brown wire seems to have some water ingress so you may well have to replace the resistor and the plug,it should not be difficult testing the resistor with an ohm meter and the silver thing attached to it is a micro temp thermal fuse which you should also test but my money would be on the plug itself .

Thanks for Michael and burrowsdeano, I will order a replacement loom and resistor from Ebay, one with 4 wires or one with 5 wires and cut off one of the wires. For the fan and motor, can I remove it and test it with another battery to check that it's dead before I buy a second hand one from a scrapyard / Ebay? Thanks

The guide in the GP section. Lists the GM.OPEL part number..half the price of the rebranded FIAT loom section. Charlie

Do you mean the grande punto guide section? Cannot find anything about replacing a loom in there. Thanks

Also there is no need to cut off the connectors, although the wiring runs above the heater box. I cut the loom either side and then run the new one underneath it. Fits just as well if not better than running above the heater box, also any future repairs are much easier. Done hundreds of them, not that it's a common issue!!!!

I don't fully understand what you mean here. I thought the way to do replace it was to cut off the four cables and connector and crimp the new loom to the wires? Meaning that I don't have to take the dashboard out. Doesn't help that I have little experience in this.

Thanks for the links, will go through all of the steps in the FAQ and will take pictures of the end result if I can remember to do so.

Hello everybody,

The heating now works after replacing the motor. It works on all speeds now. I didn't have to change the loom or the resistor luckily. I guess I'll just return these then. I didn't take any pictures as I noticed that the method would be the same as the removing debris from the blower fan guide. Thanks for your help.

I guess I could fit the new loom to avoid any problems in the near future when it arrives.
