Hi folks. Has anyone else noticed how rusty the sump pan gets?
Mine is a 2012 model with 32,000 miles. The front side of the sump pan is literally covered in rust.
Has anyone tried to paint it? Maybe something like Hamerite to protect it?

Yes this seems to be a known fault.
My own 2012 1.4 8v has a very rusty sump for only 16,000 miles.

I have rubbed down mine and painted it in POR15 black paint.

Get it done before it's too late and rotted out.

Thanks. I have a tin of black smoothrite. Will that be ok or must I use heat resistant paint?

I would use that..
As proper heat paint may need so much KEYING
Youd weaken the sump..

I've found hammerite to not be as good as it once was.

POR15 is very good as long as it avoids ultra violet light, which on a sump is very likely. Unless you turn it over

It's not a heat resistant paint but a good rust resistant paint.
