Getting an unrecognised code on Punto Evo 2011 105bhp Multi-Air. The error code is 04183 (extracted using SnapOn diagnostics computer). Anyone know what this error code is? Getting the Injection System Fault light and the General warning lights intermittently but the car is driving fine.

Hi. TBH..I Would supect a poor electrical supply. Is it the original battery?

The code..what format..is it P a U..or what. You may be better with FIAT SPECIFIC KIT like MULTIECUSCAN where is the car based.?

Car based in Warrington. Found someone with a FIAT specific scanner so will re-run it using that. Only does it when engine is cold and happened again this morning. Seems to judder a little when starting from cold and then the lights come on within a few miles.

Car is driving fine though afterwards and lights "sometimes" clear once car is warm and has been left and restarted later. All a bit random.

The code just comes up as 04183 on the SnapOn scanner, does not have a P or U prefix.

Thx for your reply!

Hi

Not too sure about the error codes but I have a 2012 Punto 1.4t Multiair and my car was showing exactly the same symptoms to yours the past month or so so I took it to the dealer to get a diagnostics done. I tried several OBD scanners and none worked, they could not read my car's ecu. I tested them on other cars and they worked fine on them... According to a Alfa Romeo forum I stumbled upon the fact that no OBD scanner could read my ecu was another possible sign of multiair failure (including juddering etc). Anyway, they found that the multiair system had indeed failed and needed to be replaced. Fortunately my warranty will cover it and I will hopefully be getting my car back tomorrow afternoon.

I also chatted to the mechanic and he said it could also have been something as simple as the spark plugs not being replaced the previous time the car was serviced (Bought it second hand in December 2015) so may also be worthwhile for you to investigate that.

was that a sellers warranty..??
my 2012 is now out of warranty,
but using JUST the recommended Selenia oils SHOULD keep the Multiair unit in good order:)

No it is the original Fiat warranty (I am in S.A. if that makes a difference?) and it only runs out beginning of next year

Thanks :). The car's first service was done at 19000km, 9000km over the first due service so it could be from the previous owner's improper maintenance that caused the multiair failure? So far it has only been serviced by Fiat (according to the book). Besides that the car is spotless in every other area, really love it
