I have a Grande Punto 60 reg. Evo driving home from shopping today, I stopped at some traffic lights, the stopstart cut in, but when I attempted to move off, absolutely nothing. All the dash lights came on but the key did nothing, not even a click from the starter. I tried a number of times without success and eventually called my breakdown. As it was near traffic lights the Police came out to help traffic flow. We chatted for some time, I got cold so got back in the car, turned the key and it started and has been fine since. Police followed me home to make sure I was O.K. having cancelled breakdown . Any suggestions as to possible fault ?

I know it sounds stupid but did you have s/s switched on ?
s/s will come on if you stall.is your battery working at full capacity? a five year old original battery may be past its best .
If so You need to get it fully checked out as something has seriously gone wrong, the s/s isn't meant to operate if there isn't enough charge in the battery or it should automatically start the car before the battery level is too low so my guess is the battery monitor element has failed.
i only know this as i had issues with mine s/s wouldn't actually work when stopping even after an hour of driving but would if forced into a stall.
turned out battery monitor was faulty.

Did you get the beep and start stop not available message?

Sounds like either a battery /engine bay earth issue or a starter motor / starter relay issue
