Hi

I have a Punto evo sporting and this morning i got to work and sat in my car for 10 mins with the engine running. Suddenly it started juddering and the engine management light started flashing. I did the 20 minute journey to work fine and didn't feel like it was driving any different than it usually does. Then on my journey home it was fine again till i reached my house, then the juddering started again and the light came back on. Now it seems to have gone down hill and I have another warning light and the car doesn't really seem to want to move in 1st or 2nd, there is also a smell with it too. It seems really low in revs and like its miss firing (i no nothing about cars just the only thing i can describe) My car has only done 20,000 miles. Being a girl i don't want to take it to a garage with no idea what is wrong as i don't want to end up getting ripped off.

Anyone got any idea what is wrong or has this happened with anyone's car?

thanks :)

Hi

Same thing happened to my Evo Sporting 135 around 41,000 miles. Mine was still under extended warranty and I took it to the garage. Mine is nearly fixed and they found that it was a fuel injector in one cylinder was sticking causing juddering and low power occasionally with the engine light on. Mine also had smoke from the exhaust. I know they've also replaced other parts including piston rings. It needs to go to a garage unfortunately!

Hi, I'm new here and my punto sporting has similar symptoms as described here. Mine only judders/misfire when the car is warmed up (about 5-10 mins driving) but once I'm up to speed/cruising the car is fine. Occasionally I also get a big puff of smoke from the exhaust when I pull away and some smoke from the bonnet where the burning smell is.

Did you find out what the problem was with your car?
Mines in the garage at the moment, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi bad news my punto had the same symptoms and I had to fork out £500 for a new multiair. Luckily I didn't have to pay for labour but was told if I did it would have been £1200. They also said that it was a common fault for it to happen but usually it happened in the first 3 years and was done under warranty. Sorry I don't have better news!

Yeah I found out. Mines fixed, running a lot smoother and quieter on idle now.
But £700 for labour is a bit high?? Was this a Fiat garage?
I'm surprised there isn't many more posts of the issue on here. There's more on the Alfa Forums.
As you say, it's a very common problem with this engine.
Also, how old is your car?
