Hi,

I have a Punto Evo 12 plate - completely factory standard.

I need to change the stereo for a non-standard one that includes Bluetooth hands free.

I'm not overly-technical or capable when it comes to cars, but I have changed the stereo in every other car I've found in the last 10 years.

I went to buy a head unit from Halfords, and they started adding on a converter cable (£50-something), the surround (£20-something) and some kind of harness which bought the extras total up to an additional £100+ on the stereo price.

I walked out.

I thought all I'd need was the surround and the radio? I thought the days of converting vehicle's wiring to different stereo manufacturers was over thanks to the ISO standard (which was the case for the last few cars I've changed.)

Am I being ripped off? What do I realistically need to change the stereo and where's cheapest to get it from? (Any links would be great!)

Thanks,
Andy

I've just fitted an aftermarket stereo to my car. Didn't need any extra plugs etc, I just ran an ignition feed from the cigarette lighter plug, up to the radio area and connected it to the red wire from the new radio, from there it was just plug and play. I lost all my steering wheel controls but it's not too much of a problem to reach over to the radio is it lol!
Only problem I do have is that when my stop/ start operates, it knocks the stereo off when it restarts, but to be honest I don't like it anyway so I turn it off

The surround I bought from eBay for about £15
