Hi All,

My wife and I both have fiats and love them, never had any problems before. For the last week or so my wifes 61 plate punto Evo has randomly made a noise and yesterday it started to leak gearbox oil.

A friend in the area who is a mechanic said that it is leaking from the input bell housing and the noise is definitely coming from the gearbox.

We bought the car 6 months ago and now it is 3 years and 8 months old so all manufacturers warranty doesn't apply even though it only has 28,000 miles on it!!!

Arnold Clark main Fiat dealer want £90 per hour to diagnose problem but then obviously they have the car in bits and so you have no choice but to get the gearbox fixed with them, very expensive!

Does anybody have any ideas if this may be a simpler fix than the initial thoughts of a brand new / recon gearbox being fit?

I'm kind of hoping that it is a failed bearing which has worn the oil seal causing the leak and it will just need a bearing / seal change.

Anybody have any thoughts please?

Thanks.

Mike

Hi
Depending on where you are in the country you can find gearbox specialists which will diagnose without the £90 an hour, and probably do it for not too much more.
I'd have a look for some places like that.
