The warning light has come up on my dashboard "check brake pads". I had my car serviced and Mot'd at Halfords. My car passed the MOT but they said the front brake pads and discs need changing but they was just under the limit, whatever that is..

The quote seems pretty expensive. Do you have an idea of how much this should cost?

parts will be @£50 to @£100 depending on your car, and brand of parts.

add 1 hours labour,
so £100 to £200 for the job.

ask around.. labour will depend where in the UK you are..,

If would cost about £20-£30 if you do it your self , a nice big saving for you

But if you're not confident about doing it yourself, being a major safety item, I would recommend a garage to replace them.

What was the quote given by Halfords?

As mentioned £150ish as a maximum but it does depend on the quality of the replacement parts and what model you have as the brakes differ depending on your engine.
