Hi everyone, I've done a quick search but not came up with anything that answers my question.

Basically there's a strange rattle/tappety type sound coming from the front end when I lift off the accelerator. It always happens when stationary but only at low speeds when moving. I've had it at a few garages and they've all said different things ranging from new turbo to loose heat shield to a loose exhaust?

Just wondering if anyone has had this or know what it could be.

Thanks in advance, Dan.

I drive the same car and I also have the same rattle, It's the heat shield on the front of the engine to the right of the turbo. I'd imagine it will be exactly the same area on yours. Yet to search for a fix though, but it annoys me also!

To check this is the same source of noise, just get a towel or something so you don't burn yourself, and press gently on the heat shield when stationary. The noise will most likely disappear as did mine.

New Turbo?! those guys are just after your money, you must've been taking it to the wrong garage mate!

Hope this helps!

Yeah that's a great help thanks mate! Yeah they quoted me something stupid like £1500 for a new turbo and fitting, then said they'd change the oil for free! Damn cheek, needless to say I walked away.
I'll have a check of that tomorrow though.

I had this problem on my ma135 and spent sometime trying to resolve the problem, as previously said I thought it was the heat sheild. There is a thread on here about it.
The rattle comes from the wastegate actuator. To overcome this the actuator rods need shortening by about a turn and a half.
For some reason the turbos don't seem to have any preload set which causes the rattle.
I took mine to a tuning specialist and had it adjusted, you can easily do it yourself, just turn it in halfs until the rattle goes away.
Search on you tube wastegate setting preload. :slayer:
