I received a new leather gear knob for my 2011 Punto Evo and I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to take off the old one and put in the new one without breaking it. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Most gear knobs just twist off or just get pulled off! I'm sure it'll look sweet once you've replaced it, happy Christmas too!

This is the replacement one, thought I'd include some pics to show you, there seems to be some notches inside it so I would assume that the old one and this one both screw on and off. And yeah it's specifically designed for the car :) ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1419541582.264057.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1419541597.004524.jpg

no problem Chad, (y)
worth using SEARCH in "advanced" to look at GP section "gearknob" posts,
as it may well help..,

if you look carefully, you may figure out which way to turn the thread..,

Did a bit of digging in the GP section and it turns out that it just twists off with brute force, shouldn't be too hard

Taking the old one off is not as easy as it sounds, it will not come off..

It looks a lot like the one on my Bravo, so try this:
Pry off the plate with the gear positions, then use a 10mm socket to remove the 10mm nut. then pull the knob straight up.

My step dad helped me take it off, turns out all you need to do is twist it with a lot of brute force! Also despite its snowing a lot I braved it to take a picture for you guys. ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1419613852.235648.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1419613873.075213.jpg

Looking good, glad you braved the snow! You should try and get a matching gear gaiter with red stitching.

I actually found one the other day but I can't remember the website

Where did you get that from?
I'm hopefully buying a 1.4 Multiair & I'm looking for one of those in a 6-speed with the red stitching!

I got it from Partsworld-UK, not their website but their eBay site

Looks great! Good to hear you found one.

I asked the guy from the Grande Punto Club in Holland for the steering wheel with red stitches. He has one left, I have send you an email about it!

Thanks guys this was super helpful, new one (and incidentally the same gear knob with the red stitching) it is a case of brute force combined TWISTING not pulling upwards I think (didn't need as much force as I expected) then twisted the new one on. Looks great!
