Hi there.

I have recently purchased a second hand 2011 fiat punto evo and am enjoying the car but the key fob that was provided has seen better days. The actual key part that flips open does not sit flush in the housing and the rubber buttons are worn and a pain to press to get the car to lock and unlock.

Now I have purchased one of these replacement key fob cases
Ebay item number: 191391982074

My question is will it be straight forward to just replace the units over.. i.e the electronics and the key it self? Also will I need to remove the battery when I am doing this and does the key hold a memory so do I have a time limit to remove the battery from the key?

Hello,

This should be a bit of work to replace.
Yes, you have to keep your electronics (not supplied anyway) for two reason :
1. code anti-theft serial number of key is programed in your ECU
2. remote is paired with you car for open/close functions

Then, if your key lock is worn, you have to exchange the uncut blade with your actual blade. This should be the hardest part.
Other casing exchange is really easy. Wash your hands, be careful with electronics statics (touch a earthed thing, remove you shoes and don't work on a carpet...)

For battery, no worries. At Fiat it's an user exchangeable part (small screw on the side), so you won't lose anything by removing power.

Thanks for the reply.. I will have a go when it arrives, The only concern I have is the battery and the remote.. Is there a time limit on removing the battery from the remote as it would ''lose the code''

Is that something I need to be concerned about.

You welcome.

As far I know, not time limit. For anti-theft serial number, it's "burned" inside, it does not need energy at all, except for reading. It work like NFC or your electronic key at work / to have something at automated drink machine, etc

For remote keyfob I think no limits too, it just use battery power to send opening code to your car.
I already removed the battery for 1-2 hours, works perfectly.

Keep us informed of your exchange, tell us if it is good quality, your item looks a great deal. And if you have picture we always like them ;)
