So finally bought my 17inch alloy wheels...

175/65/R15 >>>>>> 205/45/R17

They look amazing and really bring the car to life.. After these photos I did spruce up the tyres a bit with some shine ;)

Advantages:

Huge grip on corners and not as much roll... and of course, the looks ;)

Disadvantages:

Bit slower off the line now, Im guessing heavier wheels and because the wheel itself has a bigger diameter?

Next Project:


Spray rear disc brakes black because they are rusted and you can see it through the spokes :(

Lower the car? Ride height has gone up by 8mm.. do I need to buy new springs or can a garage lower my current suspension?

Opinions? :D

No worry for circumference, you are on the official size in 17", so according

you have only 1.3% difference.

You lose acceleration because they are more heavy and you have more friction, because tires are larger.

Yes now you "need" to lower it :cool:

Do I necessarily have to buy new springs/coil overs.... or can my current springs be lowered?
 
Cutting springs is always a bad/dangerous idea for me...

So you have to buy springs, for sure.

The real question is if you need to buy shocks absorber too ? Because they don't work anymore at the same place due of height difference, and they can wear quickly. But I'm not specialist in this.

Coilover are the best choice, but cost a lot. Advantage is you can precisely set height, and on some high-end parts set how stiff they are.

But a good choice of springs/shock absorber can do a really good job - for example even on abarth SS it's not coilover.

Wouldnt my 15inch steels have been heavier than the alloys?
 
Steel rims are often lighter than alloy, even for the same size.

Unless you have special magnesium / lightweight alloys designed for racing, they are a lot heavier than you 15'' steelies.

Hi there - I'm new to the site, Can you tell me if you needed spacers or anything to accommodate the bigger wheels and offset? Thanks.
