Hi Folks,

I've recently purchased a used punto evo sporting, gone from a bravo sport, and have the obligatory questions us new users have which we cant seem to find answers for anywhere else.
i have a had a look around for the answers but no one seems to have my specific questions, or i'm just that stupid i should really know the answers.

ok here goes.

1 - above the air vents in the centre are a button you can push in that does nothing and a little tray which doesn't seem to have any use other than that of holding money or other small items. you can see the pic of the interior with this link below. i believe it has something to do with a sat nav holder but cannot see how this works. any explanation would be helpful and appreciated.

2 - my bravo sport showed the name of the song playing from the media player on the display underneath the fuel and engine temperature, on the punto evo the song name displays on the media players own display and only shows as 'MP Play' on the display under the fuel gauge. i've looked in the menu's and manual to see if it can do what the bravo did but i cannot find a way. is it possible? would seem silly to take a step back in my opinion, as i have to move my head and take my eyes off the road to see the song name now. minor issue but just a small niggle none the less.

3 - last question. i've noticed that maybe about 40% of the time i cannot select first gear, the stick only partially moves into 1st and the gear box grinds when i try to drive, i have to take my foot off the clutch and re-select it to make it work, sometimes with a bit of force. luckily i still have a few days of warranty left so its booked in for it to be looked at, i wonder if anyone else has had this problem? i'm not a car mechanic but i'm aware there are things called 'gear linkage', could this be a problem perhaps, or maybe something else?

thanks for reading, any assistance/answers would be most helpful :)

1. The tray is just for holding items.. But I believe you need to purchase a bracket to be able to connect the sat nav to that button thingy next to the tray, picture below from a website I found

2. Don't have a clue on this one, will need to check my own punto

3. Problems with gear boxes could mean anything, from worn clutches, to syncros but the way I read it, it could be the gear linkage could be looked it. Hope their sort it out for you.

Had the same problem with my Punto when i first bought it.
My engineer said i should check it.
I drove to the dealer for a free check-up and we noticed a small "tear" of clutch oil under the shield.
We had this in mind and i have done so far 6.000 km from then, nothing happened and the first gear now is perfect.
Maybe needs some time to be driven cause its new and hard.
Hope i helped.

Regarding point number 2, dont know if this will work on the new puntos...

Press the menu button next to the fog light buttons. There should be an option called 'see radio'. Make sure that is turned to on, then it should display the track name. I know on the older grande puntos though the song name will disappear after about 15 seconds

#2 , I dont think there is a way to change this i have looked also but weird as when set on radio shows the name of station...

#3 This may be the gear linkage i sparyed ours with some brake cleaner to get rid of any dirt then some spray grease, was doing same getting into first and reverse on ours and that was at 22k miles, perfect now.

I had the same problem when i brought my evo. Its for the tom tom compatible sat nav which is really expensive.

You can buy it from fiat but think the sat nav is between £200 and £300 :( i did not bother because i already had a sat nav that worked

thanks for advice and suggestions so far. i took the car back to be checked, the garage confirmed that they replicated my gear issue and changed the gearbox oil which apparently fixed the problem, i was less than surprised when i collected the car to find it was no different. so its back with them again for a further look, they called me today, having had it 3 days, to tell me that they need to recondition the gearbox as there are some things not quite as they should be, and they were waiting for delivery of a 'gearbox sleeve'. not entirely sure what that means, so it looks like im stuck driving the all singing and all dancing (sarcasm) Ford KA, which i have as a courtesy car. It's times like these when i really need my air conditioning (very warm in UK), but alas i'll just wait to see what happens on its return in a few days.

Have you tried to have all the gear cables and selector set up by fiat dealership as had problems very Mich like this when I bought my evo sporting
