Steering wheel Menu button

The menu button on the right hand side of the steering wheel isn't responding when I press it. Occasionally when pressed very firmly it'll work. All the others on that side are okay. I'm currently using the blue and me voice commands to get me into the menu's, which isn't the end of the world. However I can't end or accept incoming calls.

Is there a way or removing it and taking a look at the connectors? The silver cover looks as if it might pop off?

Cheers

Yeah that's brill, cheers Andy!

By the looks of it, it's a sealed unit. I was just expecting some buttons on a PCB underneath. Wonder if you can buy another set of buttons as such?

I'll open it up this weekend and take a look!

Re: Steering wheel Menu button

After popping the plastic cover off, it turns out there's a rubber membrane over a PCB with some contacts on. Mine was full of crap and fluff, so a once over with a clean paint brush and they're good as new.

Also changed my air filter in the engine - another thanks to Andy for the awesome guide in the GP section.

No pictures, sorry. But make sure the car is turned off, you don't want to end up calling someone! I used a small electrical screwdriver, going round the edges of the silver trim. It took a bit of force, but you'll hear a click, give it a wiggle and pull it free from the wheel.

You'll be left with a rubber membrane covering the PCB, this can be pulled off to clean behind, just make sure you push it back properly - there's some tabs on the back of the rubber that go into holes on the PCB. I used the side of the screwdriver. At this point it is worth checking that everything still works. Turn on the ignition and press the bit of rubber that touches the contact on the PCB.

When re-assembling, the PCB looks out of place as it is angled, with the side nearest the centre of the wheel raised significantly higher than the opposite side, but this is normal. Ensure that the rubber membrane is secured to the circuit board, slide the cover back on, slotting the left side in first to go behind the airbag unit. Give it a firm (ish) push and it'll click in place.

Job done! Go enjoy a brew

Re: Steering wheel Menu button

Thanks for the mini guide! Just wanted to add that:
1) It seems better to try to lift the silver trim from the bottom and inner side as there are bigger hinges on the outer side.
2) It may help to clean the contacts on both the pcb and the rubber piece with cotton and clean alcohol.
3)It's much easier to install the silver trim back with the rubber on it and try to align them both with the pcb directly by sneak peaking from the side.
