Re: URGENT - Newly purchased sporting 135 multiair making strange ticking sound

Resurrecting this thread as I have exactly the same noise in my 2011 Bravo Multiair. Car is obviously out of warranty. Can anyone give me some idea of how much a new turbo is going to cost me ? or can I just ram a screwdriver into it to stop the rattle ?

See video on post no. 4 of this thread. Noise occurs mostly when car is in neutral and is backing off from being given a blip.

My 105 multiair is going into Fiat this week to have the Multiair actuator replaced. Just caught under warrenty. 800 bill, to be picked up by Fiat phew! Apparently the new units do not fail. We shall see.

As them if they're confident enough to put that in writing and give you a lifetime guarantee

Re: URGENT - Newly purchased sporting 135 multiair making strange ticking sound

The fix for this if it's the rattle on the turbo actuator is simple and can be carried out by yourself. On mine there was minimum preload set which causes the rattle. Add more preload and this fixes the rattle and your car should be slightly more responsive due to the actuator working correctly.

Re: URGENT - Newly purchased sporting 135 multiair making strange ticking sound

alex evo you're a star !
Carried this out just now and the death rattle has gone. Gave it just 2 more complete turns as I didn't want to stress anything but even at that it feels a bit perkier. There's another couple of tutorial Youtubes apart from the one in your post. I think this one is pretty good:-

Interesting that the heat shield is held on with normal bolts on the Dodge engine whereas I had to find a T40 torx (as well as 10mm socket) to remove the one on my Bravo - why ?

Re: URGENT - Newly purchased sporting 135 multiair making strange ticking sound

Thanks for pointing this out Alex! Had this problem for ages, knew it was related to the waste gate. I'd even fitted a dump valve (which sounds great btw!) thinking that it wasn't dumping the waste properly. Glad to find it's an easy fix, I was expecting a huge bill.

Re: URGENT - Newly purchased sporting 135 multiair making strange ticking sound

I can confirm that I've just done this and the rattles gone. I took the heat shield off and the actuator was obviously loose.

Hello . I have an Alfa Mito 135 HP , 1.4 multiair and i have the same problem . I wanted to ask you , modifying the actuator will not end in consequencies on my engine/turbo ? Will they not be affected in time? Thank you

You don't actually modify the actuator, the rod will have just loosened and needs tightening up mate

Modyfied it. Had it at -1 mm preload. Added 2 mm (4 turns) . Now is at +1. No more sound.
