Hi all, again I am referring to my parents Punto Evo here, 1.4 8v.

I took it for a run this evening and was shocked firstly that the trip data hadn't been reset since they've had the car. So it is reading about 7500 miles. I was even more shocked to see the average mpg reading saying 11 point something. Last time I looked some months ago it was reading 42ish.

Before resetting I wondered if anyone else had experienced this as it seems very odd. Fuel consumption seems normal and they are both very careful drivers. I just take it out for them once in a while and give it a run through the rev range.

Maybe this is the cause. Average speed...

Something isn't quite right here as I've definitely seen it reading 42ish mpg therefore the average speed must have been something above 0 at some point meaning it would be mathematically impossible for it to be 0 now... I think.

9999 miles, or 999:00 hours. I believe. It's probably went tits up for some obscure bizarre reason, personally I'd just reset it and keep an eye on it under more 'normal' data conditions. If it's playing up after a week, or a few hundred miles, then maybe something to worry about.

Nice one p_b!

The way I looked at it (if sums right) was ...
If a car did 1K miles a month for 6 months at 42 av mpg – then to drag the av mpg down to 11.3 would take around another 16 months of consuming all the fuel on idle & going no-where!

Thanks for the replies. Will give it a reset tonight.

I've got to say I am really impressed with the car and they love it. The 1.4 8v is more than capable and the engine note sounds superb, really deep and throaty. It has to be the best super mini on the market when you weigh up all factors such as quality and value. It just seems a shame that there is a limited engine line up especially when it comes to diesel.

On the average speed of "0" and average MPG of 11.3 issue!!

My car was recently in at the garage and they performed a software update. When I got it back, thats what mine showed too. They think it was something to do with the update.

Still not resolved though.

Same tuning happens on my punto. I reset trip a every time I fill, but left trip b running.

After several thousand miles it was left in a similar state to yours. Silly low mpg.

I think there is a bug in the software. The miles overflow and roll back to 0, but it doesn't reset the amount of fuel used.

Resetting the trip will restore order.

Same thing here - Trip B had never been reset when I bought the car and was showing 18mpg. Clearly a bug with the trip when the mileage or time is too high.

Our delta also has a nutty trip gets past about 750 miles and the average speed drops to zero even though everything else calculates kind of right, the speed then starts averaging speed as if the car stood still for the first 750(ish) miles so for example if you've covered 1500 mile the display would probably show 15mph average when it should be 30, the hours and distance elapsed remain correct so you can still work out the real average in your head! The trip also reports about 2 to 3 mpg less than actual measured brim to brim all the time. Pretty pants really and doesn't give much faith in fiats programmers really.
