My Evo Active (2010) has got a completely flat battery and I would like to jump start it.

It has Start/Stop and I read on a thread somewhere that you mustn't jump start as it burns out various bits that cost a lot to replace.

Is this true?

The safest option is to take the battery off and fully charge it at not more than 4ah till fully charged.......

you can jump start it however there is always a risk of spiking something electronic...

to reduce the risk,....

clip the donor car battery to the evo by...

donor car + to + of the evo.....

donor car - to the engine block (clean metal bit eg engine mount) of the evo..

turn the ignition of the evo on and put on the blower fan and heated rear window before trying to crank it over better still use surge protected jump leads

I've got a battery charger that does 6v or 12v and fast and normal charges.

I've tried charging the battery while it's still in the car and got it up to half charge on 12v/normal after about 8 hours. Had to disconect and start the next day and all the charge had been lost.

Is there be any point in trying to jump start and then go on a long drive to charge it?

Thanks for the good advice about safe jump starting, can't cope with any more things going wrong!

I'm only the second owner and nothing has been changed from new.

I'll take out the battery and try and charge it again. If it won't hold the charge then I'll have to get a new one.:bang:

Thanks for the info on batteries, do you know who's the best company to go to for a replacement or do I need to go to a Fiat dealer?

It's a sunny day so I've gone to take the battery out of the car.

Undone the nut on the neg lead with the sensor attached and can't work out how to remove the damn thing from the battery. Is there some secret catch to press or do I use brute strength?

It seems like the battery terminal is a solid metal 1 cm diam post. When the nut is taken off, the battery sensor/connection is loose enough to turn around the 1 cm post but won't move in a vertical direction.

Grateful for any ideas.

Eureka!!!!

Got the battery out and gave it very long charge, put it back in and it's all systems go!

BUT there are now two warning lights, one for the engine and another for the passenger airbag. I get a message saying that Stop/start isnt available and to check engine.

I read the manual which said that it could be driven but not too fast - I've just done this for about 10 miles hoping that the lights might clear down when the car was warmed up. NO. It's running ok but I had switched the Start/stop off at the button on the dash just to really make sure that is didn't stop and not start again at a junction.

I've read all the threads I can spot about this subject, tried the ignition fast turning but that hasn't worked.

Do I have to take it to a Dealer or can I try something else?

Thanks

Hi,
glad you got it running,
ANDY M is the expert on your model..,

would be interesting to see if you've still got battery power this morning..,

out of interest where are you based?,

it may be we can recommend a decent place to read fault codes / diagnose your problem,

Car started first time!!

And the engine warning light had gone, must have reset itself overnight.

I read some threads about the passenger airbag light and I have now fixed that by going through the multi function display and resetting it.

Thank you Fiat Forum, I now have a working vehicle (touch wood!) without having to get it to a garage and shell out loads of cash. Just got to get a spare wheel (didn't have one supplied) and I'll be using the advice on one of the threads to get a standard wheel and tyre rather than a spacesaver.

Thanks for setting up this fantastic website - all the best!
