Fiat Code Light with new radio

Hello all,
I'm trying to install a new radio system in my Punto, but everytime I plug the radio cable my panel lights turns on, even the fuel and temperature indicators moves. It is the same as when I turn the key besides of the key is not inserted!
Also, the yellow/ambar light for the Fiat Code system keeps on.
Does anyone know why is that happening? Of course it's because the radio, but anyone ever had a problem like that? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Fiat Code Light with new radio

Hello,

Which radio do you try to install ? Aftermarket or another Fiat one ?

I think you have a wiring error with supply / aux supply and "injecting" 12v in car modules. Be carefull, you can burn something..

Fiat code, we will see later, It depend of your answer.

Thanks for answering!
Yes, it's a aftermakert radio.
I believe this is about the supply wires too, I'm going to check them better.

Sounds like you're plugging the canbus system into the new head unit, which you shouldn't be doing, and is causing this issue.

I assume you're not using a wiring harness adapter and are just plugging the existing wiring straight into the replacement head unit?

:yehthat:

The Plug on the Fiat Loom is ISO HOWEVER it is not the same wiring

2 of the wires on the "power" plug are High and Low CAN network which the after market radio will be fighting with,.....

I'm not an expert, so I don't know if I understood right.
The unit has a CANBUS system (it's a black box) that I must connect directly to the unit, at least this is what I'm reading in the user guide. Furthermore, I'm not using any adapter, just plugging the main cable to the unit.

That's where you're going wrong. You need to either get a within harness adapter or physically make sure the vehicles canbus wiring is not connected to the head unit. As to which wires these are I cannot help with though unfortunately as I've a different Fiat model and they're all different.

Re: Fiat Code Light with new radio

there should be a diagram on the back of the headunit....

this is the standard ISO wiring diagram

https://www.fiatforum.com/gallery/da...iso_wiring.jpg

you will only need 3 wires to the Power ISO plug (live switched live and ground) discount any otheres and insulate them....

you will need a switched live (from the red cigarette lighter wire) and if you want the ilumination function a wire from the yellow wire of the cig lighter to pin #6

Re: Fiat Code Light with new radio

Thanks for the answers!

I didn't have the time to test yet, but I checked the car wires that are providing power and found that there are two of them.
One is the BAT, no problem.
The other, according to the original radio scheme, is the CAN L. Is that right? CAN L provides power?
When I did the tests, car key was not inserted.

Re: Fiat Code Light with new radio

CAN wires will provide 'signals' rather than a feed in the term of what a feed actually is. You just need to disconnect the CANBUS wiring.

Can l and can h provide a digital signal if your not sure what your doing seek the help of a good auto electrician there is a,risk of spiking the body computer. Or one of the nodes on the can network

Re: Fiat Code Light with new radio

Hi again guys,

I found what wire is the problem. Regarding the scheme provided by @Andy Monty (https://www.fiatforum.com/gallery/da...iso_wiring.jpg), it's the number 4 (ignition +12v). I've connected just CAN+, CAN-, BAT and GND wires and the aftermarket radio worked (I had to insert and turn the car key to turn it on).
However, I found some differences between the scheme printed on the original radio and the connector.
Radio's original scheme:

Car's connector:

See in connector's picture that there are 3 empty positions and in radio's scheme there are only 2.
Also, the empty positions doesn't meet and it doesn't show where the Ignition +12v wire is.

I measured with a multimeter that wire when the ignition is on (is that term right in english?) and I got power there, that's why I deduced that is the number 4.
I'm guessing that maybe the manufacturer has inverted BATT and Ignition +12v cables and that's why I'm getting that problem.

What do you think guys?

sorry for my english, I'm not inspired today =/
